GENERAL FUNCTIONS:
Under the direction of the Day Camp Director, and in accordance with the Association policies set forth by the YMCA of Greater Waukesha County, the Assistant Day Camp Director will be responsible for the guidance, direction and supervision of campers and staff. This is a seasonal position, usually running from May thru August.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To assist the Day Camp Director in the development of the overall day camp program.
- Ensure that care of participants is a key priority through direct supervision of campers and support of staff in the absence of the Camp Director.
- Assist in opening or closing camp on a daily basis. Including but not limited to: sign in/out procedures, payments and collections of camp dues, conflict resolution/ damage control with campers/parents/guardians/others, inform parents of incidents, injuries and illnesses.
- Must be at the specified site for 90% of the time that it is open, arriving at least 10 - 15 minutes early prior to its start.
- Maintain a clean, neat, organized and safe camp atmosphere and eliminate or identify any risks that could cause accidents or incidents.
- Have complete knowledge of emergency procedures appropriate for the individual site to ensure the safety of the children and staff.
- Participate in all required staff training prior to camp.
- Attend and assist in planning and leading all staff meetings, and training sessions.
- Plan daily all-camp activities and weekly special events/field trips, which incorporate pre-planned weekly themes.
- Plan, supervise, and implement the program in accordance with the goals of the YMCA Day Camp program as well as the licensing rules for the State of Wisconsin.
- Follow and maintain policies as outlined in the Day Camp manual, Employee Handbook and State Licensing guidelines.
- Appropriately assign and train all counseling staff in the leadership and supervision of all camp activities.
- Obtain all materials and supplies needed for planned activities and maintain quality of supplies, materials, and equipment.
- Assign campers and counselors to age groups. Maintain staff to child ratio.
- Cover for counselor or other program positions as needed. Act as a group counselor for peak weeks.
- Be aware of public relations between the camp and parents as well as the community.
- Notify front desk personnel immediately of any changes in the camp schedule.
- Assist Business Office staff in the processing of camper registration.
- Possess excellent time management skills.
- Uphold and exemplify the principles of the YMCA of Greater Waukesha County.
- All other duties as assigned.
