We Are Hiring:Operating Room Assistant - Oconomowoc - Part Time .5 FTE

Schedule:Most shifts Mon-Thurs 11-1930, Friday 0900-1730, may flex to earlier shift to accommodate team needs, weekend on call requirements every 4th weekend

At Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital we perform procedures including General/vascular, Orthopedics, Urology, GYN and ophthalmology. Our 8 operating rooms, freshly renovated in May 2020, include new system integration for more efficient flow during surgery.

As an Orthopedic Center of Excellence we provide an array of orthopedic procedures including same day discharge procedures for total joints.

Job Summary
Functions as a member of the surgical team under the direct supervision of a registered peri-operative nurse. Responsible for assisting in general department cleaning, case cart preparation, running errands, relaying messages, assisting with patient care, transporting of patients and room turnover.
Responsibilities

*Identifies and safely transports patients to the OR and the holding area under the direction of a registered professional nurse.
*Assists in positioning, lifting, and/or transferring patients as directed.
*Demonstrates knowledge of aseptic technique.
*Collaborates with RN team leader or Assistant team lead regarding specialty instruments, supplies, and related products for cost-effective patient care.
*Organizes information, material and equipment in preparation for patient care activities.
*Demonstrates responsibility by providing assistance with case setup for assigned rooms.
*Functions as a team member in accomplishing room turnover within an accepted time frame.
*Performs between-case cleaning of all designated equipment (transport beds, anesthesia equipment, surgical specialty equipment, etc.) in area assigned by following infection control guidelines and departmental policies and procedures.
*Cleans all designated supply areas assigned by following infection control guidelines and departmental policy and procedures.
*Responsible for general upkeep of rooms (locker rooms, lounges/kitchens, dirty utility rooms, sub-sterile rooms, scrub sink areas, patient care areas, etc.) to provide a safe, clean, and organized environment for patients/customers/team members.
*Communicates effectively with central services to obtain supplies in a timely manner.
*Obtains necessary equipment, sterile supplies, and positioning aids for scheduled cases according to preference cards.
*Restocks sterile supplies in OR as directed and according to departmental policies.
*Checks and restocks all solution carts and plaster carts, &rotates supplies as needed.
*Transports clean equipment to storage area if no longer needed for a case.
*Assists in counting inventory and outdates, maintains/orders adequate supply levels including restocking masks, bunny suits and housekeeping supplies.
*Communicates problems with equipment or supplies to the circulating nurse or control desk.
*Utilizes appropriate chain of command.
*Promotes effective communication.

Job Level Duties

*ORA I: New hire, minimal OR experience. Major responsibilities include cleaning, transporting patients, running errands, relaying messages, and assisting with turnover and patient care under the direction of a specialty team pod leader, charge RN or Staff RN.

*HS diploma/GED/ or equivalent on the job experience as ORA or EVS (with OR experience)

What You Will Do:

As an Operating Room Assistant, you will function as a member of the surgical team under the direct supervision of a Registered Peri-Operative Nurse. You will be responsible for assisting in general department cleaning, case cart preparation, running errands, and assisting with transporting of patients and room turnover.

What You Will Need:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Previous operating room support staff role or training as a nursing assistant or other patient contact role preferred
