Our Team

Electrified Propulsion Management and Efficiency (ePME) is one of the Engineering Departments in the Electrified Propulsion Development (ePD) Division of HATCI. ePME's mission is to add tangible values to Hyundai/KIA/Genesis products for North American market by improving propulsion system efficiency and performance.

The Position

Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is currently seeking a Vehicle Emissions and OBD Calibration Engineer in the Propulsion system Management and Integration (PMI) team at our Superior Township, MI facility. PMI is an Engineering Group within ePME department that undertakes engineering projects related to engine and electrified propulsion management system test and validation as well as new technology investigation for propulsion performance enhancement.

Core Responsibilities

  • Engine Management System (EMS) mapping and validation
  • EMS/OBD calibration and validation including extreme ambient condition tests.
  • New technology development for enhanced emission regulation and cost reduction
  • Support project and team success through coordination and tracking of test and development plans, project status/progress reports, and leading the execution of project activities through completion.
  • Provide deep dive technical support for pre-production and post-production issues.
  • Produce and deliver presentations on key project milestones and achievements.
  • Support for EMS manufacturing, quality improvement, field claim investigation, and certification
  • Competitor ICE/hybrid vehicle benchmarking
  • Travel both domestically and internationally (up to 15%)

Core Capabilities

  • A proven record of technical excellence in vehicle testing and calibration.
  • Ability to interpret regulations and develop test procedures.
  • Exhibits a strong understanding of the calibration tuning process.
  • Experience in debugging and resolving hardware and software issues.
  • Working knowledge of vehicle communication network systems (CAN, LIN, Ethernet, etc.)
  • Ability to identify the appropriate instrumentation required for a specific test and proficiently operate data acquisition systems.
  • Knowledge of CARB and EPA Vehicle Emissions/OBD Regulations.
  • Technical knowledge of vehicle/engine control systems.
  • Extensive knowledge of internal combustion engine and emissions aftertreatment fundamentals.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated integrity and ethical behavior.

Basic Qualifications

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other related engineering degrees from an accredited university
  • 2+ years of direct calibration experience (Base Engine or OBD-II)
  • Strong knowledge in propulsion system principles and operation, including hybrid vehicles.
  • A proven track record of engineering projects related to vehicle emission testing and knowledge in vehicle test procedures including calibration process/methodology.
  • Working knowledge of vehicle communication network systems (CAN, LIN, Ethernet, etc.) and instrumentation/operation of data acquisition systems such as ETAS/INCA
  • Knowledge of vehicle emission, OBD regulations, and OBD Monitor Systems
  • Good written/oral communication and interpersonal skills
  • Valid Driver's License with satisfactory driving record

Preferred Qualifications

  • M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or other related fields
  • 4+ years of experience in vehicle emission development, calibration and validation
  • Vehicle PM emission mitigation experience including GPF development and calibration.
  • Experience calibrating OBD-II features for mass production applications.
  • Knowledge of calibration process using design of experiments and optimization techniques.
  • Proficient in MATLAB/Simulink
