The School of Engineering at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico, seeks a dynamic leader to serve as Chair of the Gerald May Department of Civil, Construction & Environmental Engineering (CCEE). The Chair would foster the commitment to excellence in both undergraduate and graduate education, through existing B.S. degree programs in civil engineering and construction engineering accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, and construction management accredited by the American Council for Construction Education, as well as M.S. and Ph.D. programs involving students in leading-edge research. Additionally supported by over $5 million in departmental endowments, the selected visionary leader will accelerate the CCEE Department's continuing distinction in education and research.

The Gerald May Department of Civil, Construction & Environmental Engineering is one of six current departments in the School of Engineering (SOE). The successful candidate will lead the research and teaching mission of the Department, which currently has 17 faculty members, several research professors, 250 undergraduate students, and 90 graduate students. The Department is experiencing strong growth in research expenditures (approximately $10 million in 2022) and is housed in the Centennial Engineering Center, which contains state-of-the-art civil engineering laboratories. The faculty are engaged in active research programs in construction, environmental, geotechnical, structural, transportation, and water resources engineering. Important contributors to these efforts include research centers affiliated with the Department: the Center for Water and the Environment (an NSF CREST Center), the USDOT UTC Center for Pedestrian and Bicyclist Safety, the UNM Resilience Institute, and the Southwest Environmental Finance Center. The University also collaborates closely with nearby national research laboratories including Sandia National Laboratories, Los Alamos National Laboratory, and the Air Force Research Lab.

The University of New Mexico, located in the heart of diverse and culturally rich Albuquerque, is the flagship university in New Mexico. As a Carnegie R1 very high Research Activity Institution and a federally designated Hispanic Serving Institution, UNM attracts approximately 27,000 students on the main and branch campuses with nearly 3,000 students in the School of Engineering. All of our undergraduate programs are ABET accredited. UNM enjoys a decades-long partnership with nearby national laboratories, which offer robust research collaborations for faculty and students in a variety of research areas. And life in Albuquerque offers unparalleled opportunities for outdoor adventure. UNM is an hour away from Santa Fe and within minutes of the Sandia and Manzano mountain ranges, which offer great opportunities for hiking, biking, rock climbing and skiing.
