Under the supervision of the Dean of Community Education or designee, while located at the Mequon Campus and surrounding areas, to plan, develop and revise a program of instruction and to teach landscape-horticulture through a variety of modalities. Subject matter includes any landscape horticulture topics. Related duties include acquisition of supplies and equipment, and upkeep of laboratory facilities and equipment.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching-related activities.
  • Manage the classroom/laboratory.
  • Develop curriculum and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program/department evaluation.
  • Manage equipment, supplies and materials.
  • Assess student performance.
  • Advise students on academic issues.
  • Collaborate with advisory committee in program/department area.
  • Attend departmental and institutional meetings.
  • Promote the education/training program/department, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students, and participate in efforts to promote educational opportunities at MATC.
  • Support student organizations and activities.
  • Develop relationships with business and industry.
  • Complete program/department evaluation and follow-up.
  • Maintain certification, continue professional development and stay current in field.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Only those who meet all of the base minimum requirements listed below will be considered.
Minimum Educational Requirements:
Must have one of the following:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Landscape Horticulture or in a closely related field listed below, OR
  • Associate's degree in Landscape Horticulture or in a closely related field listed below with a bachelor's degree in any discipline, OR
  • Associate's degree in Landscape Horticulture or in a closely related field listed below with at least seven (7) years ((14,000 hours) experience and training, which includes one year of Supervision/Management in Landscape Horticulture

Minimum Occupational Experience Requirement:
  • Must have a minimum of two (2) years of full-time or equivalent (4,000 hours) experience in Landscape Horticulture; Landscape Architecture; Agriculture Economics; Plant Pathology; Arboriculture; Forestry; Horticulture Education; Landscape Contracting; Sports Turf; Woody Ornamental Horticulture; Pomology; Agronomy (Turf Emphasis); Environmental Horticulture; Environmental Studies; Horticulture Turf; Soil Science; Horticulture Production; Landscape Design; Horticulture Communication; Horticulture Biological Studies; Horticulture Chemistry; Horticulture Business; Plant Breeding Genetics; Plant Growth; Horticulture Science; Horticulture Education & Therapy; Landscape Management; Graphic Design; Botany and Architecture.
  • In addition, one of the following must also be met:
    • At least one year (2,000 hours) of work experience must have occurred within the last five years, OR
    • At least two years (4,000 hours) of teaching in one or more of the areas listed above at the post-secondary level within the last five years.
PREFERRED Licensure
  • Pesticide Application Certified by WDATCP (Wisconsin Dept. of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection)
  • National Association of Landscape Professionals, NALP Certified in any of the NALP Industry Certifications
  • International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist

Experience with or willingness to learn the following supportive technologies:
  • Online Information Management Systems - Experience with INFOnline or other online information management systems used for student advising, student programs, grading, class schedules and rosters
  • Blackboard - Experience with Blackboard or other web-based course - management systems
  • Technology-based Instruction - Experience with technology-based instructional delivery systems including SMART symposium, interactive touch screen monitors, LCD projectors, DVD players and/or other classroom technology
  • Emerging Technologies - Experience with emerging technologies (eg. social networking applications)

Supplemental Information

Start Date:
This position supports the Manufacturing, Construction, and Transportation Pathway and is available to start in the fall semester on or around August 18th, 2024

Hours:/Location:
This position is up to a .5 FTE and the number of hours and shift worked per week will vary based on course load and departmental need. This in-person teaching opportunity and will be located at our Mequon campus.

Salary:
Salary is listed to the midpoint of the salary range and is based on the 2023/2024 rates and are determined by years of experience credit and internal salary equity.
