Position Summary:

Directs and coordinates Perioperative Blood Services. Assures the adequacy and appropriateness of services provided to the patient. Accountable to the medical staff, administration and the Governing Body.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Develops and implements departmental goals, plans, and standards; establishes and implements policies and procedures for department operations.
Directs the preparation and maintenance of department reports. Prepares periodic reports for senior management, as required.
Develops and implements the performance improvement program for the perioperative program.
Assures compliance with federal and state law and accrediting and licensing agencies as appropriate to department.
Integrates departmental services with the organization's primary functions and coordinates with other department/ services in a manner which fosters a collaborative environment or teamwork within the department and with other departments/ services.
Ensures and role models the delivery of excellent customer service.
Maintains and supervises the perioperative blood product use and transfusion policies in the perioperative setting.
Shares responsibility with and provides medical expertise to the Administrative Director of the Perioperative Services regarding transfusion equipment, new testing methods, personnel, supplies, budget, space usage, infection control, safety, maintenance, record keeping, fiscal and regulatory agency compliance and disaster and casualty programs.
Serves as a liaison between members of the OR and Pathology Departments, Administration, Nursing and Clinical Laboratory/ Pathology personnel. Provides education to other Physicians and healthcare professionals regarding blood product collection and policies for use in the perioperative setting.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Education
X Medical degree (MD) or equivalent Preferred X Required
Required Skills
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

X Licensed physician in State of Michigan Preferred X Required
Certifications:
X Board Certified in Anesthesiology X Preferred Required
Minimum Work Experience
X 5 years related training or experience Preferred X Required
