Ironworker: A day in the life

• Tasks that involve a lot of physical labor
• Erect or dismantle structural steel frameworks
• Erect or dismantle cranes
• Signal operators for positioning structural steel
• Connect columns and beams with bolts by welding them into place
• Use shears, torches, or welding equipment to cut, bend and weld steel
• Unload and stack prefabricated steel for job
• Verify vertical and horizontal steel alignment

You'll nail it if you:

• Have a high level of physical fitness and stamina
• Find enjoyment in practical work
• Can work under strict deadlines
• Understanding building plans and instructions
• Have good hand-eye coordination
• Are comfortable working from heights
• Enjoy working as a team with other trades
