Job Description

JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE: Under the direction of Director of Behavioral Health Services with consultation from the Lead Psychiatrist, the Psychiatrist is responsible for providing psychiatric care to consumers in the Behavioral Health Outpatient Clinic and Community Support Program in accordance with agency policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Comprehensive assessment and treatment of consumers' symptoms and medications; including evaluation, diagnosis and treatment planning for all consumers seen.
  • Provides supportive psychotherapy and brief motivational interviewing as indicated
  • Orders and interprets laboratory tests and diagnostic studies and takes appropriate follow-up steps if immediate attention is required
  • Monitors ePDMP when prescribing Controlled Substances to ensure consumer safety
  • Provides diagnostic and medication education to consumers and their informal supports, with treatment decisions based in a shared decision-making paradigm
  • Monitors all consumers' non-psychiatric medical conditions and non-psychiatric medications, making referrals for primary care service when appropriate
  • Collaborate with other professionals, including Community Support Program staff, Primary care and Family Service providers and Case Management supports, playing a key role in a team of committed professionals dedicated to supporting and promoting health and wellbeing through a multidisciplinary, comprehensive approach
  • Collaborates with other agency psychiatric providers in reviewing and cultivating drug and other medical guidelines. Review of guidelines will be done in a continuing manner but no less frequently than annually
  • Provide consultation to behavioral health nursing and case management staff in order to maintain effective nursing practices
  • If consumers are hospitalized, communicates with inpatient psychiatric care provider to ensure continuity of care
  • Maintains consumer confidentiality consistent with current HIPAA regulations and Wi and Federal regulations regarding mental health and substance abuse treatment
  • Ensure the completion of all required paperwork, records and documentation in a timely fashion

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Requires a MD or DO (Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine), with completion of post-residency experience in psychiatry
