Position Summary:

The Mechanical Engineering program at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville is seeking to gather a pool of instructors who are interested in teaching courses as the opportunities arise. The ideal instructor is passionate about teaching undergraduate engineering students and interested in interdisciplinary course instruction and design. The Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Engineering department is dedicated to hands-on engineering education focused on interdisciplinary coursework and cross-disciplinary collaborations outside the classroom. We are a strong, student-centered program located in Southwest Wisconsin that prioritizes accessible undergraduate engineering education, effective teaching pedagogy, and dedication to an inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Teaching undergraduate courses in mechanical engineering.
  • Ability to engage modern pedagogy to teach undergraduate students through field, classroom, and laboratory settings.
  • Willingness, interest, or experience in cross-disciplinary collaborations.
  • Ability to effectively interact and collaborate with colleagues to complete tasks and goals.

What You'll Need to Succeed:

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Aerospace Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or other Engineering field (PhD preferred), and bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Mechanics
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience teaching undergraduate courses during graduate school (an instructor of record supervising is acceptable) or at least two semesters as a graduate teaching assistant for a lab, leading sections, OR two years' industry related experience.

Department information:

Mechanical Engineering is the largest of UW-Platteville's ABET-accredited programs and the largest major on campus. Mechanical Engineering currently has 18 tenured/tenure track faculty and 5 instructional academic staff, serves approximately 1,000 majors, and graduates approximately 190 students per year. The main program is housed on the UW-Platteville campus with an additional site at the UW-Oshkosh-Fox Cities campus. Courses are also taught via streaming video.

We provide a hands-on, experiential engineering education and our graduates are highly sought after throughout Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, and beyond. The department has long-standing relations with industrial partners throughout Wisconsin, Iowa, and Illinois. Mechanical Engineering is housed in a new, state-of-the-art engineering building.
