Job Summary:

The IT Infrastructure Engineer Team Lead (under the direction of the Sr IT Operations Manager) is responsible to manage the day to day support of the IT Infrastructure Engineers. Provide supervision, coaching, training and direction to support personnel to ensure that customer expectations are met or exceeded. Responsible for ensuring employees are meeting and exceeding expectations in regards to performance, meeting defined metrics/benchmarks, and that standards and processes are followed to provide exceptional service delivery.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Customer Service
    1. Understands department priorities and objectives and takes an active role in accomplishing these objectives.
    2. Provides periodic after-hours on-call support and responds to system failures.
    3. Creates detailed documentation, including knowledge tips on the use of, or troubleshooting of, IT infrastructure.
  2. Communication
    1. Keeps peers, end users, suppliers, and leadership informed of trends, significant problems, unexpected delays and changes to the environment.
    2. Keeps customers and project team members informed of progress on problems and work assignments.
    3. Ensures appropriate management is informed of problems or issues that are impacting groups of users.
    4. Educating and mentoring technical staff on troubleshooting and maintaining systems.
  3. Infrastructure Support
    1. Serves as the primary technical resource for the IT infrastructure environment, including all hardware, storage systems, software and monitoring tools.
    2. Produce clear technical design documentation and diagrams detailing existing and proposed technical architectures and procedures.
    3. Administer backup systems including recording and maintaining reports and statistics relating to the backup systems, restore data/systems as requested/required.
    4. Ensure IT infrastructure services interconnect seamlessly with, and proactively support, the associated systems, file servers, email servers, application servers, and administrative systems.
  4. Problem analysis, resolution, and prevention
    1. Manages the day-to-day operations of the IT infrastructure environment by monitoring performance, configuration, maintenance and repair. Ensures that records of downtime and equipment inventory are properly maintained. Applies revisions and updates as appropriate.
    2. Performs troubleshooting as required. As such, leads problem-solving efforts often involving outside vendors and other support personnel and/or organizations. Serves as escalation resource to analyze and resolve support issues.
    3. Ensures high availability and acceptable levels of performance of mission critical IT Infrastructure services.
  5. Leadership and Team Management
    1. Coaching and mentoring the direct reports.
    2. Performance evaluation and development.
    3. Assits in managing the recruitment, selection and training of employees.
    4. Under direction of the Sr IT Ops manager sets short and long term objectives, policies and operating procedures for the team.
    5. Designing and implementing training plans both by using external training and cross-skilling initiatives.
    6. Performs staff scheduling to ensure coverage during normal business hours and on-call support as required.
    7. Ensures accuracy and thoroughness; looks for ways to improve and promote quality; applies feedback to improve performance; monitors work and documentation to ensure quality, i.e. continuous improvement.
  6. Project Execution
    1. Must be able to complete assigned tasks on time and within budget, or have the foresight and experience to rectify unrealistic deadlines or tasks.
    2. Develops new IT Infrastructure implementation plans, custom scripts and testing procedures to ensure operational reliability. Trains technical staff in how to use new infrastructure components developed and/or acquired.
    3. Evaluates, installs, tests, and debugs enterprise infrastructure services. Including the design, plan, procure, install, and configure a variety of hardware, software and services required.
    4. Creates and maintains up to date and relevant documentation on all existing and new IT infrastructure components and configurations.
  7. Training and Other
    1. Develop sound understanding of IT operations and related applications and IT systems as well as business related processes and procedures
    2. Stays current with technological developments in IT infrastructure technology and recommends ways to take advantage of new technology.
    3. Performs additional related duties as requested or required.

Requirements:

Education: Associate's degree, or a Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) from a four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Technical Experience: Five to eight years of experience working in a LAN/WAN environment and IT Infrastructure environments working with enterprise technologies such as: VMware Virtualization, server clustering, Adavanced Networking, Unified computing environments, SAN/NAS, CommVault, etc. is required.

Leadership Experience: 1 - 3 years

Certifications: VMware, Microsoft, Linux, EMC, Citrix, or Cisco Certified Professionals are preferred.

Other: Valid Driver's License required.
