Job Description

Newcastle Place has an opening for a part-time Life Enrichment Coordinator.   Must have experience working in some sort of capacity in an Activity Department.  This candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills and enjoy working with the elderly.  Patience is a must!

Position is a part-time position - working every Thursday 4p-7p and every 4th weekend 9p - 4:30p.  Summer additional hours -July & August working e/o weekend 9p -4:30p

 

General Summary:

The Life Enrichment Coordinator is responsible for the overall planning and implementation of a varied activity program designed to meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of Health Center residents. The Life Enrichment Coordinator reports to the Activities Manager.

 
Essential Job Duties:
 

  •  Reviews resident activity needs and plans total recreation program based on individual needs and resident interest.

  • Coordinates and provides recreation activities: reality orientation, current events, discussion groups, re-motivation therapy, sensory stimulation, cultural activities, religious services, special entertainment, out trips, special events, and one-on-one visits, as indicated.

  • Suggests a program of recreation activities to relatives for use with discharged residents; refers relatives to recreation resources and services available in the community.

  • Coordinates Resident Council and family meetings.  Arranges special meetings for residents and families to address special interests and provide educational opportunities.

  • Transport residents to and from programs using wheelchairs and walkers and assist and / or supervise those residents who require help with walking.

  • Prepares and maintains pertinent medical records, reports, studies and schedules in accordance with state and federal regulations.

  • Purchases and inventories supplies and equipment.  Inspects recreation equipment to determine repair and maintenance needs and cleanliness.

  • Interprets the goals and objectives of the recreational program to staff, volunteers, relatives and the public.

  • Directs volunteer activities, enlists their support and coordinates their efforts; provides training and supervision of volunteers.

  • Maintains accurate documentation of residents’ progress and responses to program.

  • Design activity calendars for the resident areas.

  • Complete large month activity calendar and display on unit by the first of the month.

  • Perform the physical set-up of program sites, including transportation of required audio-visual and other equipment.

 
Other Duties:
 
 All employees are expected to respond to emergency situations involving the safety of residents, other employees and our physical plant.  This includes the ability to assist with a possible evacuation of residents.

  • All employees are responsible to adhere to all facility policy and procedures as they relate to compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Medicare Compliance.  All employees are responsible to ensure that any Protected Health Information and Medicare Compliance Information that he/she comes in contact with is maintained in a confidential manner.

  • Abide by emergency, safety and health regulations. Eliminate or report all hazardous conditions as they occur.

  • Abide by all rules and policies set forth by the company and department.

  • Attends in-service training and education session, as assigned.

  • Employees are responsible to perform any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
 
 High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Prior experience and experience in long-term care facility, preferred.

  • Must have CBRF certification, or ability to obtain certification within 90 days.

  • Ability to understand and follow instructions in English, communicate effectively and perform simple arithmetic.  Ability to document care services, as needed.

  • Possesses ability to communicate effectively with residents, families and staff.  Must use sound judgment, works well under pressure and possesses strong organizational skills.

 
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
 
Frequent standing, stooping, bending, stretching, squatting for approximately 60% of work day.  Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. occasionally.  Must be able to push residents weighing up to 250 lbs. in gerichairs and/or wheelchairs.May be exposed to communicable diseases, HIV and Hepatitis B viruses, industrial and household chemicals, offensive odors and combative behavior.
