Salary: The hourly rate range for this non-exempt position is $18.51 to $25.38. Appointment above the minimum is possible based on qualifications and experience, subject to approval.

West Allis Resident Incentive Pay: An employee who resides within the City of West Allis shall be granted an additional 2% on top of the established pay for their position.

Examples of Duties

The primary duties of this position are light to heavy manual labor; collection of refuse, recycling, brush, and special pickups; municipal yard attendant for drop-off sites; operation of large trucks and motorized vehicles with varied capacities and special purpose equipment. Other duties may include, but are not limited to, snow and ice operations, emergency work, hauling a variety of materials, other seasonal duties such as hot-tar crack filling, concrete work, asphalt maintenance and repair, using a Vac-All, and assisting other divisions as needed.

The ideal candidate for this position is a positive individual who is comfortable utilizing technology, is highly adaptable and responsive to the changing priorities of the department and City, is comfortable interacting with a wide variety of people including City employees and the public, and possesses the ability to remain calm and professional when dealing with challenging situations and people.


High School Diploma or GED required.
Valid Wisconsin Drivers license in good standing per the City's policy required.
Valid Wisconsin Commercial Drivers License, Class B, C with air brakes required.
Minimum of two (2) years of recent paid work experience in the operation of trucks greater than 26,000 GVW required.
Experience with Light to Heavy labor

The City of West Allis is an at-will employer. All appointments are subject to a training (probationary) period of six (6) months; however, employment may be terminated at any time for any reason.
