Job Description

ENTRY LEVEL LABORER - $20 PER HOUR AND UP

POSITION SUMMARY

The Plant Utility Specialist works in a plant equipment in the production of hydrated lime, and bagged lime products of various sizes. The Plant Utility specialist will load and load railcars, trucks, and trailers and operate other processes, including lab and mobile equipment as required and safely produce product in line with customer specifications and Graymont standards.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Adhering to all Graymont safety standards, principles, policies, and procedures.
  • Participating in regular Health and Safety meetings on site.
  • Ensuring the accurate reporting and recording of all health and safety incidents, near miss or hazards in a timely fashion using company procedures and systems.
  • Complete all required training as specified by MSHA and Graymont standards
  • Taking all practicable steps to work safely at all times and ensuring others do also.
  • Knowledge of PPE and a commitment to use PPE as required (including but not limited to hard toe shoes, earplugs, safety glasses, hardhat, and high-visibility vest).
  • Maintain a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card
  • Being aware of environmental requirements at the site, and adopting common sense environmental practices.
  • Acting in accordance with operating procedures relating to minimizing environmental impacts.
  • Method 9 VEO Certificate (visible emission observation) is preferred.
  • Ensuring all communication to management, co-workers, and external contacts is professional, timely and supports the best interests of Graymont according to the Graymont code of ethics.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Load and unload rail cars and assist loading trucks as directed.
  • Assure that all products meet the quality specifications and provide Certificate of Analysis as required.
  • Operate bag and bulk bag filling equipment, palletize filled bags, and prepare pallets of bags for shipment.
  • Operate production equipment, including but not limited to the hydrator, lime handling, crushing and screening processes, and transload system.
  • Verifies proper lubrication and fluid levels, and performs standard lubrication tasks.
  • Assists in preventative maintenance and other minor maintenance tasks on mobile and stationary plant equipment, including but not limited to front end loader, forklift, skid steer, street sweeper. Obtain certifications required to operate mobile equipment.
  • Knowledge of all quality testing as prescribed in accordance with Graymont policies and procedures.
  • Assist in identifying potential problems and non-conformances from normal operation and reporting all unusual operating parameters or observations to Plant Management.
  • Perform housekeeping duties, including but not limited to shoveling, sweeping, operating the street sweeper, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Safe operation of forklifts, front end Loaders and skid steers.
  • Strong safety values and commitment to working safely
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to use a computer and to understand and use computer software, including Microsoft Office and JD Edwards; and the ability to learn new software.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in a professional manner in person, through email and using radios or phones
  • Ability to work 8 to 12 hours.
  • Ability to work any day, including weekends; including holidays and any shift including overnight shifts.
  • Must be able to work overtime as needed, including extra hours on short notice.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods and climb ladders and/or stairways.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. repeatedly up to 12 hours.
  • Use of various hand and electrical tools and equipment.
  • Work in areas of fluctuating temperature.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment.
