Job Description

Job Summary


The Strategic Commodity Buyer is directly responsible for strategic management of commodities and spend categories for Neenah Enterprises (NEI).  As a team member of the Supply Chain organization, you will be responsible for development and implementation of comprehensive sourcing commodity strategies that support and align with NEI annual operating plans.  You will identify, evaluate and select qualified suppliers; negotiate pricing and long term agreements, and drive supplier productivity & total landed cost improvement of purchased materials. 

Essential Functions

Job duties may change over time and additional job functions may become essential. 
 
  • Identification, qualification, and selection of new suppliers; preparation and execution of RFQ and competitive bidding events; creation and evaluation of complex business cases; leading Contract/LTA negotiations and compliance; all while ensuring cost, quality, capacity, delivery, and capability requirements are met and sustained.
  • Develop and own the Commodity Strategies intended to define the importance of the commodity (portfolio analysis), understand business requirements and conduct market research, set goals, conduct gap analysis, develop the sourcing strategy and objectives, execute and monitor results and continue to revisit and modify to meet the ever-changing requirements of internal and external customers alike.
  • Collaborate with Finance, Engineering, Operations and Sales regarding new product development activities to support and align design with our preferred strategic supply base, delivering products on time and at or below cost targets.
  • Support all manufacturing site(s) requirements, leveraging spend across locations to identify and implement sourcing and process improvements to strengthen and accelerate supply chain initiatives.
  • Develop, measure and manage key supplier performance metrics.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and experience in supply chain programs (Sourcing, Procurement, Contract Management, Forecasting, BOM analysis) and inventory management systems.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain team to set inventory targets in balance with supply/demand requirements and objectives.
  • Leverage BOMs, RFQs, and Supplier Agreements to achieve goals
  • Monitor supplier and product performance to ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Perform Supplier Financial Risk analysis/assessments to mitigate risk of supply disruptions.
  • Continuously evaluate new and existing sources to identify and implement improvements.
  • Develop strategic plans and prepare RFQs for materials and services.
  • Analyze bids for specification compliance, pricing, lead times, and vendor performance.
  • Develop cost models and manage the impact of cost drivers within commodity groups.
  • Negotiate price with suppliers and mitigate supplier request for cost increases.
  • Deliver cost improvements to meet the corporate financial requirements/goals.
  • Own and manage escalated issues related to supplier performance including poor quality, late delivery, unexpected changes in pricing and unanticipated supply disruptions.
  • Lead the reviews of supplier performance and manage relationships using commodity strategies, scorecards and metrics.
  • Adhere to the ISO Policies and Procedures.
  • Prepare monthly reporting of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

  • Ability to successfully interact and positively influence at all levels within the organizations and with key supplier representatives, up to and including management.
  • Ability to set achievable but aggressive goals, and deliver results.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.


This position description is intended to cover the most significant, ongoing job functions and competency areas.  Successful performance in the role will require performing satisfactorily other duties as assigned. 

Education and Experience Requirements
 
  • Bachelor Degree in Supply Chain Management, Materials Sciences, Business Administration, or Operations Management or equivalent Supply Chain experience.
  • Leadership in negotiation of long-term agreements.
  • Demonstrated record of identifying, initiating, and delivering year-over-year EBITDA cost savings.
  • Ability to develop, interpret, and make decisions based on total cost of ownership modeling.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively; with strong networking, influencing, and communication skills; and to drive effective project execution.
  • 3 – 5 years’ experience in a commodity analyst, buyer or strategic sourcing role.     
  • Multi-site, center led sourcing experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of ISO procedures and policies
  • Experience in manufacturing a plus.


Physical Requirements

Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

The worker must be able to access, analyze and otherwise work with, enter information stored in or obtained through the company's computer system, and to communicate effectively with co-workers and third parties who have business dealings with the Company's Human Resources operations.  

Travel Requirements

25% travel to supplier locations and other Neenah Enterprise Locations
