Schedule Details/Additional Information:
Float Schedule DetailsM-F 1st shift – starts between 0400 and 1030 with flexibility.M-F 2nd shift – starts between 1100 and 1700 with flexibility.Sat & Sun shift – starts between 0400 and 1700 with flexibility.Courier will have set schedule week to week and would be asked to be flexible to cover unforeseen issues with scheduling needs.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Transports and delivers medical specimens, materials, laboratory results, mail, and supplies to clients using proper procedures and safety precautions.
  • Ensures that all specimens are properly collected, stored, transported and then delivered throughout the route, while keeping specimen integrity and meeting critical hospital turnaround times.
  • Pickups and delivers to designated route. Ensures adherence to assigned courier schedule, assuming responsibility for additions to schedule as directed.
  • Communicates regularly with the dispatch team in ensuring all additions for will call services are completed and in providing information on completed supply deliveries.
  • Documents completed supply deliveries and any other information for quality assurance/improvement according to established protocol.
  • Assists in result sorting and resolves any issues with ensuring a timely delivery of results.
  • Acts in a prompt, friendly, and professional manner and maintains good relations with laboratory clients.
  • Maintains scheduled maintenance, clean appearance and upkeep of vehicle.
  • Assists in improving the quality and efficiency of laboratory procedures and workflow processes, and makes adjustments as necessary.

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

  • A valid drivers license issued by the Division of Motor Vehicles.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Driving record must meet Aurora fleet safety standards
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with a variety of clients and staff.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with local area streets and addresses, with the ability to navigate and read maps and/or directions.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must be detail oriented with the ability to multi-task.
  • Basic computer skills.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, and get in and out of a vehicle for the majority of the workday. Must be able to bend and stoop throughout the workday.
  • Frequently lifts and carries up to 10 lbs.; occasionally will be required to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Occasionally push/pull a 4-wheeled cart with up to 30 lbs. of force; frequently push/pull a 2-wheeled hand truck with up to 50 lbs. of force.
  • Occasionally will be required to reach overhead during the course of daily activities.
  • Must have the ability to work a flexible schedule that may include alternate/ multiple site assignments and weekends.
  • Position requires extensive travel, will be exposed to severe road and weather hazards.
  • Must have the ability to handle stressful situations in a calm and professional manner.
  • Will be exposed to potentially hazardous and/or infectious materials; therefore, protective clothing and equipment must be worn as necessary.
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
