The Health Equity Director will be responsible for directing the successful launch and ongoing oversight of a new Advocate Health supported center focused on addressing health equity in an underserved community in Milwaukee as part of our enterprise Advocate National Center for Health Equity (ANCHE). The Director will establish the business operating model for the site, including recruiting and onboarding community partners who will have a physical presence in the center, as well as integrating Advocate Health clinical and social services within the center. The Director will have responsibilities for fostering trust with neighborhood leaders and community-based organizations, establishing this new center as a place that welcomes innovation and serves as an essential community resource and leader in addressing current and emerging community issues.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads the Milwaukee site strategy and operations including management of staff, programs and relationships needed to drive success.
  • Manages relationships with multiple Advocate Health senior leaders, including community engagement and community health as well as multiple other health system service lines to assure the timely launch of Advocate Health’s signature place-based health equity initiative designed to address health disparities in Milwaukee.
  • Serves as the lead ANCHE representative with Milwaukee-area community groups and neighborhood leaders, incorporating the aspirations of the community within this new center through new partnerships with local groups and identifying solutions to reduce health disparities.
  • Establishes the ANCHE Milwaukee Center as an inclusive and trusted community convener, partnering with local organizations and neighborhood leaders and working collaboratively to incubate innovative programming and services that address priority health and wellness needs in the community.
  • Positions the Milwaukee-based center as a leading voice for change in the community, developing a program of events, educational sessions, opportunities for networking and other ways to make this new space a vital hub for neighbors in the surrounding community.
  • Strategically aligns the ANCHE Milwaukee Center with similar place-based health equity programs and related centers across Advocate Health; identifies and advances opportunities to bring to the Milwaukee Center innovative programming from across Advocate Health.
  • Develops evaluation and outcomes models for the Milwaukee site in partnership with Advocate Health’s internal evaluation and analytics team.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Level of Education:  Bachelor’s degree in social work, business management, public health, or related field. 

Years of Experience:  Minimum of 7 years of experience overseeing health system, public health and/or non-profit programs and services. 

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA)

  • Advanced written and in-person communication skills
  • Understanding complex social and clinical programs in a large metropolitan market preferred
  • Experience engaging with community-based organizations and stakeholders from the public, private, nonprofit, and faith-inspired sectors in the Milwaukee region highly preferred.
  • An understanding and ability to articulate how major social drivers (like food, housing, and employment) as well clinical health equity issues (including maternal and infant health, cardiometabolic disease, and violence-driven injury), impact overall health for individuals and communities.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Position is based in Milwaukee and requires regular in-person, on-site oversight of an Advocate Health facility; may require occasional travel.
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
  • Exposed to a normal office environment.
