Job/Internship Description

Job Description:

Position may include working in various areas of the accounting dept (including Billing, Accounts Payable, Driver Payroll and General Ledger) while gaining valuable real-world, hands-on experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES BY AREA WITHIN THE ACCOUNTING DEPT:

BILLING

Process freight bills to customers using established contracts and/or spot quotes.

Investigate and resolve payment differences.

Contact customers to review and resolve unpaid and short paid bills.

Enter customer payments.

Provide assistance to accessorial teams.

ACCOUNTS PAYABLE

Enter invoices to correct vendor and post in correct month/year and to correct general ledger acct.

Save or route incoming emails to the appropriate file location or dept.

Maintain both paid and unpaid files of accounts payable documents.

Match checks or payment run files prior to generating payments.

Index several types of accounting documents in the correct cabinet/doc type within Paperwise.

Prepare and process uploads as directed.

Process invoices through the Common Logistics Payable application, transfer to GP and post to proper period within general ledger.

Process UPS shipments and incoming mail, deliver incoming packages, and audit weekly invoices.

Assist with Permit work as requested.

GENERAL LEDGER

Participate in month-end and quarter-end accounting close processes.

Assist with preparation of journal entries and reconciliations of accounts.

Work with outside departments, providing requested data and reports.

DRIVER PAYROLL

Index driver paperwork, ensure accurate doc types, correspond with drivers.

Assisting in the review and troubleshooting of loads to ensure processed according to pay packages.

Assist with various reports and projects.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Daily interactions with all areas of accounting department staff, along with team members from departments across the company.

Customer & vendor correspondence by telephone, email, and mail.

ABILITIES/SKILLS REQUIRED:

Strong command of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel/Word)

Strong written and verbal communications skills with the ability to interact comfortably with all areas of the company

Ability to analyze and problem solve

Ability to work in fast-paced, deadline oriented, dynamic, and changing environment

Ability to pay close attention to detail

Proven ability to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Sitting for long periods of time, light lifting, manual dexterity, stooping, bending for filing

EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIRED:

Working towards a Bachelor's or Associates Degree

High School Diploma
