The Senior Repository Technician is tasked with performing complex assigned activities within the repository. They are responsible for the coordination and expediting the movement of materials between offices, laboratories, and repositories. This position evaluates and orders materials needed for specific laboratory/repository tasks, which requires applying knowledge of supplies management.
The Senior Repository Technician requires a working knowledge of technical, operative, or administrative methods and practices as well as biorepository/biobanking industry best practices. This position serves as an aid for other repository technicians, can provide direction and delegate tasks, and follows standard procedures and precautionary measures to work independently, communicate effectively, and make sound decisions. Success in this position requires attention to detail to produce highly accurate and complete work.
1. Receive incoming materials and paperwork (e.g. manifest) and prepare samples and paperwork (e.g. waybill) for delivery in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements including domestic and international requirements for transport of hazardous and/or biological materials. Ensure appropriate handling and storage of temperature-controlled materials. Coordinate with shipping service providers, track shipments to final delivery and confirm with sender/destination.
2. Ensure appropriate handling and storage of temperature-controlled materials. Ensure material and sample data are accurately entered and tracked in inventory system. Create batches in the inventory system based on information and specific requirements provided by customers. Review and confirm inventory work completed by technicians in training.
3. Assist in managing and completing customer complaints reports, process deviations, incidents, and accidents in a timely manner. May assist Repository Management in solving complex customer inquiries and following up directly with customers.
4. Maintain repository files, such as shipping records and transaction records, review records for accuracy and prepare sample data reports. Keep track of specimen movement history and resolve inventory inaccuracies.
5. Monitor temperature-controlled storage systems and document systems alerts. Maintain freezers and tanks. Maintain an organized storage system and inventory of internal specimens.
6. Ensure proper safety protocols are followed, materials and equipment are maintained, and inventory is properly stored to ensure viability when transferring and transporting materials.
7. Assist in training new technicians in the effective use of equipment, methods of storage and retrieval, and systematic data entry. Provide ongoing support, training and mentoring to team members.
8. Perform cycle counts and physical inventory counts regularly. Perform functions in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) with the effective use of equipment, methods of storage and retrieval, and systematic data entry.
9. Recommend changes in protocols and procedures to Repository Management to develop/improve repository operations.
10. Respond to emergencies outside of routine business hours, including timely travel to the site as part of the response team, as necessary.
