Aerojet Rocketdyne offers a complete line of propulsion products for launch vehicles, missile defense, and advanced hypersonic propulsion. These products have been used in a wide variety of government and commercial applications, including the main engines for the Space Shuttle, Atlas and Delta launch vehicles, and High Altitude Defense Systems.
We have multiple openings for a Test Mechanic - Space Propulsion to work at our West Palm Beach, FL facility.
These positions are for 1st and 2nd Shift. 2nd shift position will train on the 1st shift during their initial training period.
Perform a variety of duties, some complex in nature, to assemble, mount, and test development and production space propulsion systems, components, and rigs.
40% - Under direction of supervision or higher grade mechanic, work from procedures, drawings/prints, work instructions and specifications while interfacing with engineering to meet balancing, assembling, mounting, and testing requirements on new or development hardware. Assist in the cleaning, assembly, setup and pressure testing of components, rigs and facilities.
40% - Where method of work is specified, follow established procedures/work instructions or work with higher grade mechanic to operate and maintain various support equipment, making simple modifications as required. Including maintenance and repair of test facility valves, vacuum pumps, and high pressure piping systems.
10% - Regularly work with mechanics hand tools and specialty tools on light to medium weight parts. Occasionally work in an awkward or strained position using manual or mechanically assisted devises.
5% - Work with methods and operations engineers to assist in devising and developing improved tooling and process changes in both the assembly and test processes. Occasionally participate in investigations by analyzing data, diagnosing problems and recommending solutions.
5% - Audit records, analyze and compute data and maintain logs to assure compliance to departmental procedures and customer requirements.
Comply with Federal & State Environmental and Safety regulations, as well as conform to Company guidelines and procedures for operation of both test facilities and space propulsion systems in assembly areas.
Perform other related work of a comparable or lower skill level as required or directed by higher-grade mechanic/supervision in support of department objectives.
In addition to the typical duties listed above, this position also requires:
Required: High School Diploma or equivalent. An A&P license is also required.
The level at which the successful candidate will be employed is dependent on the skills, experience and knowledge they possess. (Position level will be filled based on education and experience of identified candidate.)
Desired: Two year technical degree, trade school, or equivalent and 3-5 years' experience.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:
Working conditions are vary industrial working outside on a test stand. The work environment may require a combination of indoor and outdoor activity (hot, cold, wet, humid conditions) with a varied amount of walking, standing, sitting, climbing (i.e. ladders, stair, scaffolding, ramps), balance (maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces), bending, reaching, handling/fingering (seizing, holding, grasping, turning picking, pinching), stooping, kneeling, crouching and ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds. Work may require the ability to operate material handling equipment (forklift, crane, hoist, man lift, etc.) in a safe manner. While performing the duties of this job, employees may work around variable noise levels or with fume or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, etc. requiring the use of personal protective equipment such as face protection (safety glasses, goggles, face shield), foot protection (i.e. steel toed shoes, rubber boots, etc.), gloves, hard hat, shop coat and hearing protection. Some positions may require Respirator clearance up to and including the Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) Level A clearance. Work requires the ability to change into or out of personal protective equipment when entering or exiting manufacturing, laboratory, or other areas. Some employees may be required to drive between various locations within the Company facility or between locations. Work duties may also be required to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer and/or the ability to travel by air or auto. Ability to distinguish colors may also be necessary. This position may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
Employees in these classifications require specific visual acuity based on National Aerospace Standard: near vision 20/25(Snellen) at 16" +/- (2.54 cm) or equivalent in at least one eye, natural or corrected color perception. Employees should be capable of adequately distinguishing and differentiating colors used in the involved process.
