Job Summary

Reporting to and under general supervision of the Culinary Operations Manager, with additional lead work direction provided by other University Culinary Services managers, the Food Service Worker (FWS) assists in the preparation and/or serving of food and beverages and is responsible for cleaning and maintaining culinary equipment and work areas within established standards.

Key Qualifications

This position requires a working knowledge of the methods for cleaning and preparing foods for cooking and storing foods; proper methods of arranging dining room furniture, setting tables and serving meals; various types of food service utensils and equipment and their uses; methods of cleaning and maintaining food service areas, utensils, and equipment and sanitation and safety measures in a food service environment. Beginning proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office is required. Knowledge of Google Suite and EATAC or similar automated food management system preferred. The incumbent must successfully complete a pre-placement physical exam and must possess and thereafter maintain a food handler card, which has been accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) or be able to obtain within 60 days of hire.

Salary and Benefits

Starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and will not exceed $3,120 a month. This is a full time, non-exempt position, which will lead toward permanent status following the successful completion of a probationary period.

This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave. In addition, 14 paid holidays are offered each year; 13 scheduled on specific days and a Personal Holiday that may be taken any time during the year.
