Summary

The Risk Management Lead reports to the Chief Operating Officer and manages the Enterprise Risk Management function, providing leadership, vision, and direction for the organization's adoption of best risk management practices. You will oversee the implementation of enterprise risk management as a second line of defense accountability and will lead continuous improvement and refinement of SCUS's enterprise risk management framework, including systems, processes, and centralized reporting.

What You'll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

Enterprise Risk Management Leadership and Subject Matter Expertise

  • provide vision, leadership and direction for enterprise risk management;
  • represent and communicate Save the Children US's (SCUS) strategies and policies for risk management to senior management and other stakeholders;
  • recommend the adoption of risk appetite statements and protocols for reporting and escalation and de-escalation of risk exposures to the Senior Leadership Team;
  • establishes the methodologies and tools for identifying, assessing, monitoring and reporting on SCUS's risk exposures; including annual interviews with senior leadership team members and other senior staff to determine key risks that could affect implementation of the Agency's strategy, and ensuring maintenance of risk registers at the division and Agency levels;

Risk Reporting and Analysis

  • prepare and deliver regular updates to the Board of Trustee's Audit and Risk Committee indicating key risks facing the Agency, and preparation of regular senior management oversight reports including follow-up of outstanding actions
  • develop toolsets, including systems and their specifications for capturing risk information and reporting on risks issues and mitigating actions;
  • lead continuous improvement and refinement of SCUS's enterprise risk management framework, including systems, processes, and centralized reporting
  • oversee risk ownership and accountability both for first line risk decision-makers and second line risk owners for specific categories of risk
  • ownership of the enterprise risk management framework and implementation for risk appetite measures and escalation and de-escalation protocols for incidents as well as appetite measures;

Capacity Development

  • lead efforts to embed risk management across the organization and evolves enterprise risk management tools and competencies to continually develop risk management in line with leading best practice;
  • act as a focal point for best practice sharing on enterprise risk management with stakeholders across the Save the Children movement;
  • represent SCUS at the Save the Children International Global Risk Management working group, staying abreast of best practices, and contributing to the effective development of risk management system architecture to adequately address globally shared risks across the movement.
  • Communication with stakeholders across the Agency on all elements of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM)

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor Degree or equivalent experience, plus at least 10 years of relevant experience
  • Proven experience and capability of leading an Enterprise Risk Management function
  • Demonstrated ability to develop all elements of an ERM plan, and success in communicating all aspects of ERM to Trustees, Senior Leadership Team members, managers, and staff
  • Proven success in handling multiple competing priorities and tight timelines
  • Demonstrated ability to manage relationships and influence without authority
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully communicate and collaborate with individuals and teams at all levels of the organization
  • Professional proficiency in MS Office suite
  • Professional proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 20% domestically and internationally to SCUS or Save the Children International locations.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with individuals and teams at all levels, both internally and externally
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering and maintaining and environment of diversity, inclusion, and belonging.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with USG regulations for grantees and contractors preferred
