Job Description

Job Summary

As a Design engineer at Neenah Foundry, you get to:
 

  • Coordinate tooling activities on both new and existing equipment regarding gating and risering in an effort to produce quality iron castings
  • Collaborate with customers to develop casting designs feasible for manufacturing at Neenah Foundry Co, along with potential project involvement with all NEI facilities.

  • Interpret customer-provided drawings (i.e. specifications, GD&T, etc.) and/or concepts to determine feasibility for manufacturing at Neenah Foundry Co or other NEI casting facilities, both new and re-designed products. 
  • Develop casting designs through collaboration with customers as well as the various foundry disciplines within Neenah Foundry. Design must be such that the casting can be produced at Neenah Foundry Co or other Neenah Enterprises casting facilities to customer’s specifications.
  • Utilize software (Creo, Solidworks, Magma, AutoCAD, etc.) to layout new parts in accordance with Manufacturing and Pattern Shop requirements to produce a quality casting.  This includes, but is not limited to, pattern positioning, gating, risering, and venting.
  • Attend daily quality meetings to monitor the performance of the new and existing products.  Make technological decisions to remedy problem jobs or improve quality.
  • Develop casting engineering best practices for the NEI products.

Education and Experience Requirements

 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical degree with manufacturing knowledge.
    • Experience in 3D modeling (Solidworks or Creo) and 2D drawing (AutoCAD) development is required.
    • Solidification analysis (Magma), FEA experience, GD&T, CNC machining, and foundry knowledge are all a plus.
    • Prefer a minimum of five to seven years of experience as an iron casting process development engineer. 



Physical Requirements

Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

The worker must be able to access, analyze and otherwise work with, enter information stored in or obtained through the company's computer system, and to communicate effectively with co-workers and third parties who have business dealings with the company's operations.


Travel Requirements

 Occasional travel is anticipated with this position, estimated at 4-8 times annually.
