This is an on call position.

Job Description:

Certified athletic trainer will provide, within the scope of practice, prevention, clinical evaluation, immediate care, treatment, rehabilitation, and triage of injuries incurred by patients. Certified athletic trainer will maintain flexibility in work schedule with evening and weekend work expected. Certified athletic trainer will work under the direction of a sports medicine physician and report to clinical manager or supervisor. In addition, when working in a clinic assignment, will support clinicians in the clinic of Sports Medicine as directed by the clinicians.

Major Responsibilities:
1. Athletic trainer will provide, within the scope of practice, prevention, clinical evaluation, immediate care, treatment, rehabilitation, education, and triage of injuries incurred by patients.
2. Athletic trainer works with institutions enrolled in the Outreach Program to provide athletic training services to athletes.
3. Athletic trainer works with organizations and institutions to provide athletic training coverage of athletic practices and events at the professional, intercollegiate, interscholastic and recreational levels.
4. Athletic trainer works with medical staff supporting the function of Gundersen Sports Medicine Clinic.
5. Athletic trainer works withboth internal and external medical staffto Gundersen Health System, in providing athletic training services to patients.
6. Athletic trainer works with physical therapists to provide appropriate care to patients of the Gundersen Sports Medicine Physical Therapy clinics.
7. When working in a clinic assignment, also performs the following:

  • Provides pre-operative therapy programs and home therapy programs for patients as directed by the clinician
  • Provides casting, splinting and brace fitting services and education regarding appropriate care.
  • Performs pre-visit planning for clinicians as directed.


8. Other work related duties as assigned.

Education and Learning:
REQUIRED
Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training or Sports Medicine or a related field

DESIRED
Master's degree in Athletic Training or Sports Medicine or a related field

Work Experience:
REQUIRED
No experience required. New graduates are welcome to apply.

DESIRED
1 year in a high school or clinical setting. Experience with casting, splinting, and bracing techniques and applications. Previous experience working with EPIC software system or other medical tracking software.

License and Certifications:
REQUIRED
Board Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) by the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA-BOC)
Licensed Athletic Trainer - Wisconsin (LAT) and some positions may require additional state licenses
Current American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider CPR certification; Heart Saver, Rescue and Military training network CPR; or the American Red Cross CPR certification (CPR) except Citizen and Animal classes

DESIRED
Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) or Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES) or Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES)
