Job Description

Job Summary


The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for planning and implementing tasks associated with assigned projects. Utilize engineering skills, knowledge and creativity to solve problems associated with project tasks.

  • Develop mechanical system design solutions based on engineering principles and be involved with plant operational and maintenance personnel
  • Provide technical support to internal customers
  • Resolve operational problems related to projects and operational equipment
  • Responsible for project success either as project leader or team member
  • Ensure all relevant safety objectives and legal requirements are observed for all activities involved with
  • Analyze project requirements and perform technical calculations supporting design
  • Create and finalize designs to meet project requirements
  • Create accurate Bill of Materials for projects
  • Define equipment and parts supplied by external suppliers
  • Conduct cost estimations and potential cost savings for projects
  • Manage work completed by outside contracted services
  • Identify and plan strategic future projects that support efficient, profitable casting manufacturing


Expected Areas of Competence (KSAs)
 
  • Strong fundamental knowledge of mechanical design and its application in automated industrial designs including motor specifications, gearing, mechanical systems, pneumatics, hydraulics and dust collection
  • Critical thinking with exceptional problem solving skills, able to work independently or in a team environment
  • Proactive, resourceful and highly motivated with good communication skills
  • Ability to work in high output environment

This position description is intended to cover the most significant, ongoing job functions and competency areas.  Successful performance in the role will require performing satisfactorily other duties as assigned. 

Education and Experience Requirements
 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or similar related degree)
  • 5-7 Years related job experience
  • Proficient in ACAD and MS Office



Physical Requirements

Sedentary work. Capable of lifting 50 pounds. Capable of navigating steps and ladders to reach elevations of plant areas. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

The worker must be able to access, analyze and otherwise work with, enter information stored in or obtained through the company's computer system, and to communicate effectively with co-workers and third parties who have business dealings with the company's Human Resources operations.  

Travel Requirements
 
  • Travel as required to support projects
