High School Sports Reporter

The USA TODAY Network-Wisconsin is looking for an energetic, innovative and digitally savvy reporter to join our team of reporters and editors covering high school sports for theStevens Point Journal, the Wausau Daily Herald, theMarshfield News Heraldand the Wisconsin Rapids Tribune. We are looking for a forward-thinking journalist who can exhibit expertise on the recruiting landscape, break news, write layered feature stories, provide insightful analysis and unexpected enterprise, and has a proven ability to excel on multiple platforms with a digital-first mindset.

The successful candidate will have proven ability to engage followers and build an audience through social media. Among the qualities we're looking for is a journalist who excels at:

• Aggressive, independent reporting and clear, insightful writing and storytelling.
• Developing sources to better break news and explain the news.
• Providing both in-the-moment and deep-dive analysis.
• Interacting with audiences via a variety of digital channels, including social media, video, Q&A chats, live coverage, podcasts, etc.
• Plugging into analytics to respond to what's resonating with audiences.
• Exploring trends, issues and behind-the-scenes features concerning high school and college sports.

Our newest reporter must be able to work collaboratively with our existing reporting teams and editor across Wisconsin, including Appleton, Green Bay and Milwaukee.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's or Master's in Communications, Journalism or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Adept at shooting video.
• Strong command of AP grammar and style.
• Strong copy-editing skills and the ability to produce content that is clean, accurate and "publication ready."
• Is passionate and enthusiastic about news and content that will work well with audiences on social platforms.
• Comfortable in fluid, fast-breaking, stressful situations.
• A desire to grow and develop a key beat in our newsrooms.
• Is comfortable using social media such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat to enhance reporting and promote stories.
• Understands reporting ethics and sourcing.
• Excels in a fast-paced news environment and understands the digital-first mission.
• Collaborates well with others and can work with a team on the biggest stories.
• This role requires a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and the minimum liability insurance required by state law.
