Job Description
Assures Neenah Foundry’s products meet customer quality specifications. The Product Reliability Manager manages new product launch process from sample production through provided value added services to submission of customer Pre Production Approval Process (PPAP) materials.  Serves customers by providing product and service information during the PPAP process and works with Advance Production Quality Planning (APQP) to ensure customer new product launch schedules are achieved.  Assures new products continue to meet customer specifications by monitoring initial production, and managing Safe Launch process.  The Product Reliability Manager also manages processes such as tooling wear and dimensional checks on castings throughout program life to proactively address potential quality issues, and serves as a resource in quality problem resolution.

  • Operate as a key contact for both customers and value add suppliers during the new product launch process and initial production.  Works to resolve issues during the PPAP process to ensure success of new products in full production.
  • Manage Safe Launch Process to ensure new products continue to meet customer approved PPAP characteristics through the initial runs of approved production.
  • Manage metrology function to ensure CMM and Scanner operations are optimized in both the utilization of manpower and equipment in order to meet PPAP deadlines and to maximize the dimensional measurements of castings to detect tooling wear.  
  • Serve as a focal point for gathering data from both internal operations and external value add suppliers for analysis and process improvement.
  • Work with customers, Sales and Purchasing to identify suppliers and obtain customer certification for value add services.
  • Issue Work Instructions, Process Change Notices, Corrective Actions and other critical documentation as needed to communicate specific job instructions as required to meet customer quality specifications.
  • Manage and lead employees in department through effective coaching, direction and feedback and by administering formal performance review process.
  • Assist Sales, Customer Quality Engineering and/or outside service suppliers when necessary in the new product launch process to resolve casting or provided value-added service problems in a timely manner in order to maintain customer new product launch schedules.
  • Maintain product quality by enforcing quality assurance policies, procedures, customer specifications and government requirements; collaborating with other members of management to detect quality problems and develop new product, engineering designs, manufacturing, and training methods.
  • Ensure the PPAP and Safe Launch procedures are established, maintained and made available to all relevant personnel.  Manage and direct the activities necessary to achieve and maintain quality system requirements in regard to PPAP and Safe Launch.
  • Provide direction to Pre-Production Engineering for tooling changes and/or corrections.
  • Maintain Metrology departmental staff by assisting in the recruitment, selection and orientation of new employees.  Meet the ongoing development and training needs of Metrology personnel through individual feedback and formal training programs as required.
  • Determine capital equipment needs of quality assurance department in regard to Metrology and Product Reliability.
  • Provide input into casting design to promote the manufacturability of quality castings.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and report all safety and/or environmental problems to responsible management personnel.
  • Assist in any area of the operation when and if required where his/her work experience or knowledge will help accomplish the objectives of the organization.
  • Address non-conformities identified in the PPAP and Safe Launch processes from internal and /or external audits.
  • Oversee and maintain the established calibration and testing program.
  • Assisting the management team and provide Quality Assurance (QA) support as necessary.

  • Ability to take initiative, to maintain confidentiality, to meet deadlines, and to work in a team environment.
  • Basic PC-based computing experience (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Working knowledge and demonstrated application of Lean / Six Sigma tools.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents, such as casting blue prints and models, QCL’s, MSDS sheets, and other related documents.
  • Ability to investigate, evaluate and assimilate new technologies such as x-ray, vision and laser scanning to improve the process of ensuring product reliability.

Education and Experience Requirements
 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field required along with a minimum of five (5) years previous work experience as a quality engineer satisfying customers in technology-driven, developing companies.
  • ASQ certified Quality Engineer, highly desirable



Physical Requirements

Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or minimal amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Must be able to go in and inspect equipment including cranes, cupola, emission system, confined spaces, heights, climb multiple ladders and stairs,

The worker must be able to access, analyze and otherwise work with, enter information stored in or obtained through the company's computer system, and to communicate effectively with co-workers and third parties who have business dealings with the Company's Human Resources operations.  

Travel Requirements

15-20% domestic travel
