Rasmussen University is growing! We are seeking an experienced nursing leader to serve as the Area Dean of Nursing for our outstate MN and WI campus locations. This role is responsible for promoting and supporting the vision and mission of Rasmussen University by providing leadership to all aspects of the School of Nursing programs under his or her authority and on his or her campus and off-campus instructional sites.

As the Chief Nurse Administrator for the program(s) under his or her area of authority, the Area Dean of Nursing is accountable for developing an active teaching/learning community among students and faculty. Through continuous, active, daily interactions the Area Dean of Nursing works collaboratively with the campus and off-campus leadership and School of Nursing leadership to assure high quality instruction in a safe and engaging learning environment. The Area Dean of Nursing ensures there is one (1) group of faculty which serve the nursing program(s) and adhere to faculty policies, decision-making processes and ensures the faculty have input into the curriculum development, delivery, and evaluation. Through direct oversight and leadership of academic operations, the Area Dean of Nursing is responsible for assuring the students are provided support services required to achieve the student learning outcomes and program outcomes. Additional Responsibilities:

Nursing Program(s) Governance 25%

  • Provides direction in planning and administration of the nursing program(s), including assessment, evaluation, development and revision of courses and overall curricula; facilitates faculty participation in planning, implementing and evaluating the curricula.
  • Establish and maintain advisory boards composed of clinical partners and other community leaders in accordance with University and School of Nursing Guidelines.
  • Ensure Faculty and Students have access to program governance opportunities.
  • Hold and document monthly faculty meetings following the Faculty Meeting Topics outlined in the School of Nursing Program Performance Report (PPR).
  • Prepare the program(s) budget according to University and School of Nursing guidelines with input from the Faculty.
  • Ensures compliance with University and School of Nursing policy and procedures.
  • Prepares reports, plans, and analyses to document and advance the activities and initiatives of the School of Nursing.
  • Maintains familiarity with regulatory and compliance bodies including Higher Learning Commission (HLC), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

Outcome Attainment 20%

  • Accurately track key academic metrics used to monitor performance of the School of Nursing. Monitors student success including NCLEX pass rates, graduation rates, and graduate job placement rates.
  • Utilization of the systematic plan of evaluation used to guide and inform program decision-making and ensure the achievement of the student learning outcomes.
  • Establish performance standards for self that support the overall strategic plan and vision of the School of Nursing, campus/region, and organization as a whole, and holds self-accountable for achieving results.

Faculty Management 20%

  • Ensures full- and part-time faculty meet or exceed State Board of Nursing requirements for faculty and evidence is maintained according to University and School of Nursing Guidelines.
  • Develops long-range staffing plans to include new hires and adequate support staff that are aligned with program delivery, enrollment, and market projections.
  • Monitors current faculty-to-student ratios to ensure faculty are sufficient to achieve student learning outcomes and program outcomes.
  • Responsible for the recruitment, selection, on-boarding and continuous evaluation of campus Dean of Nursing or Associate Dean of Nursing.
  • Provides direction and guidance to nursing Dean, Associate Dean, faculty and staff, including:
  • Orientation and on-boarding
  • Organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments
  • Performance reviews, coaching, and goal-setting
  • Personal and professional development

Curriculum Supervision 15%

  • Initiate, sustain, and deliver School of Nursing curricula in accordance with programmatic accreditation standards and strategic planning goals.
  • Establishes and maintains community relationship including clinical sites and ensures all clinical affiliation agreements are current and evidence is maintained.
  • Monitors and reports student achievement of end-of-program student learning outcomes through meaningful use of the School of Nursing Program Performance Report.
  • Facilitates faculty involvement into curriculum development by ensuring quarterly completion and submission of the Quarterly Course Report and participation in Course Led calls.

Student Success 10%

  • Ensures all students receive policies and policy revisions according to University and School of Nursing guidelines.
  • Utilizes the University Academic Appeal and Grievance Process as outlined in the University Catalog.

Resource Allocation 10%

  • Maintains responsibility for all fiscal, physical, and learning resource needs of the area and/or campus relating to the School of Nursing; plans for, requests, and disburses operational, capital, and other funds legally, responsibly, and fairly within given budget limitations.
  • Tracks and assesses equipment and supply expenses throughout the year; delegates and holds staff accountable for the efficient use of resources (Ex: ATI and Simulation).
  • Collaborates with admissions to facilitate and forecast student enrollment; updates and maintains course sequencing; sequences courses across the system to maximize clinical faculty.

Reporting Relationships:

The Area Dean of Nursing reports to the Regional Dean of Nursing. The Area Dean of Nursing has the authority and responsibility for planning, budgeting, scheduling, personnel matters, curriculum matters, instruction, development, student arbitration, resource matters, faculty oversight, and other academic matters in the assigned Area.

Requirements:

  • A Doctorate Degree in Nursing is highly preferred. Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN/MAN) from an accredited institution is required.
  • Minimum of 2 years-experience required as a faculty member in a professional nursing education program and/or higher education administration.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of management experience within the nursing field.
  • Minimum of 2+ years full-time or equivalent direct care experience as a practicing nurse.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with an emphasis on Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point and/or Prezi.
  • Demonstrated track-record of organizational/team/individual development.
  • Proven ability to manage day-to-day business operations with discipline and a keen focus on details and the comprehension thereof.
