OverviewHGA is an award winning architectural, engineering and planning firm that is currently looking for an user experience designer to join their research and innovation team, Design Insight Group (DIG). DIG is an interdisciplinary team, within HGA, of evidence-based design researchers, practice-based researchers, lean process improvement specialists, design anthropologists, and data analytics and visualization specialists. DIG is driven by a mission to highly integrate research and innovation across the firms practices to advance design processes, build to the body of knowledge, and apply original insight to achieve positive and lasting human impact.
The position could be filled at any of HGA offices (Alexandria, VA; Boston, MA ; Washington, D.C.; Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Francisco or San Jose, CA; Madison or Milwaukee, WI; or Rochester or Minneapolis, MN) as the applicant will serve as a resource across the nation and for all practice groups within the firm (healthcare, public, corporate, cultural, science & technology and higher education).This is a fulltime position, and the applicant will report to DIG Directors.
ResponsibilitiesThis position includes the following responsibilities:
- Collaborate with project teams to implement and integrate experience design into project work
- Collaborate in an interdisciplinary manner to integrate knowledge and approaches within DIG and the practice to help solve problems
- Lead and facilitate client-facing meetings and workshops
- Ability to identify potential research topics, develop new techniques and technologies for data collection, effectively interpret and dissemination findings, and apply insights to inform design projects
- Create user experience stories and narratives through interpretation of insights gathered
- Prepare abstracts and manuscripts for conference presentations and publications
- Maintain project schedules

QualificationsIn addition, we are seeking candidates with:
- Prefer 7+ years of practice experience in architecture and design, higher education, science and technology, or healthcare industries
- Proven application of design thinking, change management, master planning, workplace strategy, strategic planning, and/or design research
- A broad understanding of user research needs and trends in the design practice
- Ability to adapt experience design research concepts and theories across all practice groups and influence change through informed design
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 products such as Excel and PowerBI, Adobe Creative Suite software, Qualtrics, and other facilitation applications and/or data collection/analyses tools
