Job Description

What you will do

The Sustaining Senior Engineer III is a product support engineering role that will report to the Sustaining Engineering Manager within Special Hazards and Foam R&D. You will be supporting fire protection equipment for a variety of applications and industries. Activities include product support to the business by working with manufacturing, quality and technical services, working with regulatory approval agencies to maintain compliance to global standards and working in a global R&D organization to design, test and validate our products. You will have opportunities to revise and improve products, reduce product costs and implement your changes into the business. You will interface with many internal functional departments and external resources or customers as required for your product line responsibilities.

How you will do it

The Senior Sustaining Engineer will work independently or lead a cross-functional team to solve complex problems and develop unique solutions for an established product offering. You have good time management skills and able to manage multiple projects and prioritize to meet critical deadlines. You work hands on with the manufacturing and R&D team and clearly communicate design specifications, test criteria and are receptive to feedback. As a strong leader you can influence and inspire the project team to utilize fundamental and advanced engineering tools.

What we look for

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (preferred) or Chemical Engineer with strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Four plus years relevant work experience in R&D or manufacturing.
  • Able to apply fundamental engineering theories, mechanics, fluid dynamics, mathematics and physical science concepts to the job.
  • Ability to perform root cause analysis for complex problems and lead corrective actions
  • Demonstrated ability to lead others in a team environment, good written and oral communications skills, flexibility and adaptability to changing situations.
  • Ability to write reports and present detailed technical information.
  • High attention to detail and solid organizational skills.

Preferred

  • Familiarity with DFMEA (design failure mode and effect analysis)
  • VAVE experience.
  • Experience with phase-gate design processes
  • Ability for occasional travel
  • Proficiency of MSOffice, PTC Creo and Windchill
