The Engineering Manager is responsible for direction and management of the Project Engineering group and the Maintenance Dept for the specialty chemical facility. Will provide technical guidance and ensure sound engineering procedures are in place and followed. Will maintain & continuously improve engineering and maintenance standards. Will lead engineering team in design, development, production launch, and the successful execution and completion of projects on time and within budget. Will work with other plant/company departments to establish projects needs and accurate capital budgets.

Will oversee three Project Engineers and a Maintenance staff consisting of ten people including a Maintenance Supervisor, an E&I technician, four pipefitters, and four mechanics.

  • Will work with and mentor the Project Engineers on all aspects of project management and execution.
  • Coordinate and manage resources, both personnel (other project engineers, technicians, contractors etc.) and funding, to ensure the project fulfills and meets the set objectives defined within the approved scope.
  • Oversee the Project Engineers on project steps: developing process flow diagrams, material and energy balances, piping and instrument diagrams and equipment specifications. A thorough design evaluation process ensures the safety, operability and environmental integrity of the proposed project installation.
  • Propose and control the project costs in accordance with the capital project guidelines.
  • Monitor the project in accordance with the key performance indicators, including within budget, delivered on time and successfully handed over.
  • Review the quality of work completed with the project engineer to make sure it meets project standards.
  • Evaluate performance and provide feedback to project engineering team members assigned to the projects.
  • Ensure that all projects are sustainable and designed for the long term, resulting in a positive impact to the company.
  • Ensure that all assets are well designed (i.e. plant layout, equipment selection etc.) and fit the business purpose through proven principles and thorough design reviews.
  • Work with Operations to ensure that the operators, mechanics, electricians etc. are effectively trained and that the transfer of the equipment to the Operations is smooth and efficient. This includes all the supporting documentation to operate and maintain the plant. e.g. operating instructions, equipment manuals, plant layouts, maintenance instructions, spare parts listing, etc.
  • Support the operation of all the equipment installed until required deliverables are achieved.
  • Complete a final report on all projects.

Maintenance Department responsibilities:

Responsible for the safe maintenance and repair of all plant equipment and systems, equipment and building upgrades, outside contractor coordination and supervision.

  • Provide leadership to plant maintenance team on maintenance programs, with emphasis on planning and scheduling of predictive/preventive maintenance
  • Plan and implement maintenance and reliability projects, providing leadership and technical support
  • Track, analyze, and improve key maintenance parameters, metrics and KPI's such as asset utilization, maintenance costs, PM compliance, schedule compliance, etc. Employ a Reliability-Centered Maintenance analysis to identify and lead continuous improvement activities
  • Use established maintenance improvement techniques such as root cause analysis, CMMS metrics like Mean Time Before Failure (MTBF), Mean Time To Repair (MTTR), Planned Maintenance Percentage (PMP), and system availability other operational data to reduce the number of repeat failures and improve equipment availability, reliability, and knowledge
  • Ensure operational efficiency of electrical equipment and mechanical systems through timely inspection and repair
  • Negotiate contracts with outside vendors for execution of maintenance work
  • Train and supervise employees of the maintenance department
  • Cultivate a more highly skilled, motivated, and effective organization
  • Manage and motivate staff, review, and assess performance, develop and build employee skills, support their professional development and enable employees to optimize their contribution to the department

Job Requirements

Requirements

  • S., Chemical or Mechanical Engineering degree
  • Batch chemical experience ideal but open to other chemical backgrounds
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in PSM covered facilities
  • Experience managing projects of $1 - 5MM
  • Understanding of CMMS applications
  • Familiarity with SAP applications or similar operating system
