Job Description: Science Systems and Applications, Inc (SSAI)is seeking a summer intern with experience in space instrument calibration to support projects on the Hydrosphere, Biospheric and Geophysics (HBG) contract at NASA's GSFC.

If you are on a journey to explore and expand your ideas and career, you are ready for HBG. This contract provides scientific, engineering and software support for the design, development and testing of remote sensors, sensor systems, space-based instruments, sensor calibration and on-orbit performance analysis to NASA.

Situated at SSAI HQ in Lanham, MD, this intern position support the important work already initiated to demonstrate the benefit of using data fusion from multiple missions, such as MODIS and MISR to validate and enhance our understanding of sensor calibration and data quality. The successful candidate will provide support to the advancement of the previous work and is expected to bring new insight to this effort using more recent coding tools/techniques (Python).

A dedicated mentor will ensure proper guidance to achieve a set of science objectives, and the intern will have the opportunity to interact with a large team of knowledgeable scientists and engineers (at SSAI HQ and at NASA/GSFC) to learn about various remote sensing topics.

Required Qualifications:
  • MSc in physics or environmental sciences or similar fields.
  • Demonstrated experience with analysis software such as Python, IDL, etc.
  • Good background in data analytics, and able to identify and perform research tasks
  • Capable of working both independently and within a dynamic project science team
  • Very good verbal and written communication skills
  • US Citizenship or Permanent Residency required
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience working with space sensors data analysis calibration and characterization.
  • Experience with large data set processing and analysis.
