Job Description

Job Summary


The Maintenance Supervisor directs the function of the maintenance department during assigned shift.  This position is responsible for assuring the safe and efficient operation, utilization and maintenance of all equipment, building and grounds.  The maintenance Supervisor is accountable for the safety, productivity, attendance and quality of work of all assigned electricians and mechanics.

  • Supervise electricians and mechanics, ensuring work is assigned in safe and efficient manner and in compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Work closely with maintenance planners, purchasing, other supervisors and vendors to properly coordinate arrange for the repair and/or routine maintenance of equipment.
  • Review and maintain all check sheets and PM, completing necessary action items in a timely manner.
  • Monitor uptime and efficiencies of all production equipment in the plant, working with other maintenance and production supervisors/ managers, as well as plant engineering to drive for improvement and efficiencies.
  • Qualify employees to perform all necessary functions.
  • Inspect and monitor work areas, examine tools and equipment, and provide employee safety training to prevent, detect, and correct unsafe conditions or violations of procedures and safety rules.
  • Investigate accidents or injuries and prepare reports of findings.


Expected Areas of Competence (KSAs)
 
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Monitoring/Assessing performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
  • Knowledge of hydraulics, mechanics, pneumatics and basic electrical functions.
  • Managing one's own time and the time of others.
  • Motivating, developing, and directing people as they work, identifying the best people for the job.
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.
  • Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to draw conclusions.
  • Ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.


This position description is intended to cover the most significant, ongoing job functions and competency areas.  Successful performance in the role will require performing satisfactorily other duties as assigned. 

Education and Experience Requirements
 
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a business or engineering discipline or equivalent work experience.
  • Prior maintenance supervision experience.
  • Experience in the heavy metal manufacturing preferred.
  • Experience in manufacturing in a unionized environment is a plus.



Physical Requirements
 
  • Must be physically able to stand for long periods of time
  • Must actively engage in safe working practices
  • Must be able to tolerate hot working conditions and a loud environment
  • Must be comfortable working in small spaces
  • Must be comfortable intense physical demands of the position
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

The worker must be able to access, analyze and otherwise work with, enter information stored in or obtained through the company's computer system, and to communicate effectively with co-workers and third parties who have business dealings with the company's Human Resources operations.  

Travel Requirements

Little to no travel is anticipated with this position
