Job Description

Job Summary


The Production Manager provides leadership to a team of salary exempt and union employees in a continuous process Foundry manufacturing environment.  The Production Manager is responsible for ensuring safety, quality, productivity, efficiency, and profitability metrics are met through proper coaching and supervision of employees.  The Production Manager is to plan, direct, and coordinate all aspects of the operation of the Disa, Core, Molding, and Finishing departments.

  • Lead, coach, and mentor production supervisors to achieve goals, while demonstrating role model behavior
  • Oversee three shifts of production
  • Ensure that supervisors are aware of and adhere to plant safety rules; work with the supervisors to develop a safety culture
  • Plan and direct production activities, while considering operation needs and cost factors
  • Coordinate production activities with purchasing, maintenance, and quality to achieve production and scrap goals
  • Conduct daily production meeting with supervisors
  • Ensure that employees know and understand customer and quality requirements and expectations
  • Develop and revise production schedules and priorities as a result of customer requirements, equipment failure, or operating problems
  • Identify and develop continuous improvements to production processes with the supervisors or CI team.
  • Ensure process corrective actions are addressed in a timely manner and are effective in solving the issue 
  • Assign employees to work schedules, work centers, and plan appropriate levels based on production needs and capacity
  • Troubleshoot processes and/or procedures to find the root cause on an issue and find a resolution
  • Attain departmental goals in regard to Safety, Quality, Productivity and Profitability KPI’s on a regular basis
  • Control labor, material and supply utilization.  Evaluate performance against the established standard; take necessary corrective action to meet or exceed standard

  • Ability to deal with issues with multiple variables such as process improvement and resolution of poor performance on an individual or departmental basis
  • Ability to demonstrate effective oral and written communication across different levels and departments
  • Ability to effectively manage performance and confront issues directly
  • Ability to work within a team environment not only within the organization unit but also across departments and shifts
  • Strong knowledge of Quality Specifications using identification, data gathering solution development, implementation and follow-up skills
  • Strong computer skills, including familiarity with MS Office Suite of products (i.e. - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)


This position description is intended to cover the most significant, ongoing job functions and competency areas.  Successful performance in the role will require performing satisfactorily other duties as assigned. 

Education and Experience Requirements
 
    • A Bachelor’s Degree in a business or engineering discipline or equivalent work experience is preferred
    • Must be experienced in the manufacturing process used in specific areas for Fabricated Metal Products and Foundry production and casting distribution.
    • Experience in heavy manufacturing and a unionized environment is a plus.
    • Must have previous experience as a supervisor in a metals machining environment.


Physical Requirements

Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or minimal amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Must be able to go in and inspect equipment including cranes, cupola, emission system, confined spaces, heights, climb multiple ladders and stairs,

The worker must be able to access, analyze and otherwise work with, enter information stored in or obtained through the company's computer system, and to communicate effectively with co-workers and third parties who have business dealings with the Company's Human Resources operations.  

Travel Requirements

Up to 10% travel is required.
