The Clinical Instructor is responsible for clinical education in healthcare agencies throughout NTC's District. Clinical instructors play a vital role in the education of prelicensure nursing students. This role requires demonstrated knowledge, competence, and experience in a specialty area of practice as a direct care provider. The role requires excellent organizational, written, and oral interpersonal communication skills. As a part of the Nursing Faculty team, the Clinical Instructor is expected to ensure all program standards are met in all clinical learning activities, whether on campus or at a clinical agency. Each clinical course has a team of faculty that collaborate to meet the student learning outcomes. The Clinical Instructor role requires active participation with the team and in team discussions.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Maintain clinical competency and knowledge of current evidence in the literature required to teach in the clinical and lab settings.
• Apply principles of adult learning and evidence-based practice in nursing education.
• Complete all training as required by the Nursing Program and the clinical agency assigned. Follow all program policies.
• Adhere to FERPA that protects the rights of student privacy.
• Attend clinical and agency orientation for each clinical section.
• Meet with students as requested or when necessary to address student performance concerns.
• Evaluate student clinical work. Provide timely feedback to students. Submit grades in LMS by assigned deadlines.
• Communicate in writing with student and Program Director if the student is not passing at any point during the course.
• Supervise all care provided by a student throughout the clinical course, to include medication passes and treatment plan.
• Coordinate with clinicians at clinical site to create patient assignments for students.
• Teach students how to perform duties at a clinical site and answer their questions.
• Collaborate weekly with the nursing faculty team.
• Maintain compliance with Nursing Program Student Learning Outcomes and Evaluations.
• Ensure compliance with all clinical learning objectives and assist students in meeting course competencies.
• Meet response deadlines as required.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in nursing, but can be a Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Educator, Clinical Nurse Specialist, HealthCare Administrator, etc.
• Occupational instructors must have a minimum of two years (4,000 hours) full-time or equivalent demonstrated verified relevant occupational experience in the appropriate field for each instructional area teaching (half of which has to be in the last five years).
  • May waive the occupational experience of one of the two years within the last five years (2.) if the candidate has two years full-time equivalent post-secondary teaching experience in the appropriate occupational field within the last five years.
• Experience in teaching and working with diverse populations preferred.
• Ability to communicate effectively with adult learners and to maintain good relationships with staff and students.
• Ability to work collaboratively with teams and college staff for continuous improvement.
• Ability to exercise individual initiative, independent action, and sound judgment.

Physical Demands

Bloodborne Pathogen, emergency action plan, emergency eye wash, emergency procedures, ergonomics (office/workplace), hazardous waste, medical waste and slips, trips & falls.
