Job Description

Job Summary


A Logistics Manager will oversee the movement, distribution and storage of materials. This position will control the flow of incoming materials and outgoing finished products to ensure customers receive products on time. The Logistics Manager will prepare reports for upper management, negotiate shipping and supplier costs, and work to improve the efficiency of the company’s supply chain while managing the relationship with the company’s 3rd Party Logistics Provider.

  • Maintain signed and updated Contract(s) with the 3PL (3rd Party Logistics Provider), including all modes of Transportation (Van TL, Flatbed TL, Dump Truck, LTL, Intermodal, Expedited, etc.)
  • Manage rate negotiations with the 3PL
  • Develop and implement the Rate Agreement (signed rate sheets) with the 3PL, to include lane specifics, effective dates, and signatures from both parties
  • Monitor Fuel Surcharges (by mode) and accessorial (by mode) agreements
  • Conduct spot audit reviews to ensure that the invoiced amount matches with the agreed-upon rate
  • Collaborate to develop KPIs and reporting; Conduct regular reviews of these, both internally and with the 3PL
  • Manage overall carrier performance and provide feedback to 3PL
  • Establish standard operating procedures and best practices across all Transportation related functions and processes
  • Develop and implement LTL routing guides for all shipping locations
  • Constructively intervene on all freight operations or carrier issues
  • Regular review of data to identify opportunities to reduce cost and improve service
  • Regular review of lanes/rates to ensure competitive costs are in place that enable NF to meet service requirements
  • Provide carrier suggestions to 3PL for any lanes where additional carrier support or carrier depth is needed
  • Develop a forecasting information process that can enable volumes to be shared, at the load and lane level with the 3PL
  • Participate in carrier performance review and improvement meetings with the 3PL
  • Develop future strategies at NF to ensure consistent capacity, reliable service, and competitive cost for all areas of Transportation
  • Daily communication with NF internal customers concerning shipping activities and improvement opportunities

Education and Experience Requirements
 
  • A Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, logistics or business administration
  • 10 years of Supply Chain, Transportation Management, and Freight Sourcing experience
  • Experience with managing a Freight Broker/3PL relationship is preferred
  • Sourcing, Procurement, and Contract Management skills in a Logistics or Freight role preferred


Physical Requirements

Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

The worker must be able to access, analyze and otherwise work with, enter information stored in or obtained through the company's computer system, and to communicate effectively with co-workers and third parties who have business dealings with the company's Human Resources operations.  

Travel Requirements

Up to 20% travel.
