Fiber Optic Splicer Field Technician
Job Purpose:
Outside plant fiber optic: Maintenance, Troubleshooting and Design Implementation
Essential Duties and/or Responsibilities:
Travel to premises to install, maintain, and repair fiber optic equipment and accessories.
Mostly outdoor backyard work in Dane county. Cold Winters and, Hot Summers. However long term exposure is limited with seasonal equipment and PPE gear.
Inspect and test lines and cables, recording and analyzing test results, to assess transmission characteristics and locate faults and malfunctions.
Splice cables, using hand tools, Fusion Splice Machines, or mechanical equipment.
Measure signal strength at utility poles, using electronic test equipment.
Set up service for customers, installing, connecting, testing, and adjusting equipment.
Place insulation over conductors, and seal splices with moisture-proof covering.
Access specific areas to install terminal boxes, auxiliary equipment, and appliances, using bucket trucks, or by climbing poles and ladders or entering tunnels, trenches, or crawl spaces.
Bonding, Cable management, and Cleanliness at each location.
Build enclosures to connect cables between structures and lines from poles, towers, or cabinets
Install equipment such as amplifiers and switches in order to maintain the strength of communications transmissions.
Clean and maintain tools, test equipment and Vehicles.
Valid Drivers license required.
Experience and Education: (please insert your own requirements)
Experience is a plus but not required willing to train right candidate.

This is a unique job extreme negligence or vandalism can be considered a federal crime. We handle the active backbones of the communications links in Dane County and beyond on a routine basis.

Telecommunications - Knowledge of transmission, broadcasting, switching, control, and operation of telecommunications systems.
Equipment Selection - Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.
Customer and Personal Service - Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
Equipment Maintenance - Performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
Time Management - Managing one's own time and the time of others.
Quality Control Analysis - Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
Judgment and Decision Making - Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
Repairing - Repairing machines or systems using the needed tools.
Public Safety and Security - Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
Engineering and Technology - Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
