    Hourly Pay Rate/SalaryStarting hourly rate of $16.62 and maximum of $21.83. Pay rate will be commensurate with qualifications.
    Hours per Week40 hours per week during the school year plus approximately 4 weeks during summer.
    Work Schedule7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Monday - Friday for approximately 39 weeks annually. This position is customer-focused and may require the ability to adjust schedule to meet college, department, and student needs. This is a limited-term, grant-funded position through June 30, 2021.

    Overview and Responsibilities

    The Automation Engineering Technology Instructional Assistant is responsible for demonstrating installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting procedures, and related operational skills to students, maintaining labs, ordering and stocking parts, and performing related functions. This position will also support grant-funded activities facilitated through the Chippewa Valley Technical College (CVTC) mobile lab at high schools or in the campus lab. This position reports to the Dean of Apprenticeship, Engineering, Manufacturing, and IT and is provided work direction by the Automation Engineering Technology program director.

    Responsibilities:

    • Maintain lab equipment including, but not limited to, hydraulics, pneumatic, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), robotics, and mechanical assemblies.
    • Interpret technical documentation and use manufacturer parts manuals for ordering replacement parts or assemblies.
    • Demonstrate and supervise installation under a variety of environments and technologies taught in program coursework: mechanical drives, alignment techniques, hydraulic, pneumatic, pumps, electrical motor and PLC, troubleshooting and related skills to students.
    • Set-up lab equipment for daily activities.
    • Purchase supplies and equipment and assist with documentation and revision of materials.
    • Provide guidance to Automation Engineering Technology students in a lab environment.
    • Organize supplies and tools and clean and inspect workstations.
    • Perform basic maintenance on lab equipment.
    • Test computer software installation verifying functionality and connectivity to proprietary systems such as PLCs, Vision, Drives, and other devices.
    • Mechanical and electrical skills necessary for maintaining and repairing equipment.

    Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Knowledge of and skills in electrical troubleshooting using voltmeter and ammeter testing.

    • Basic knowledge of and skills with technology including software programs for communication, data collection, and decision making including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, and Excel.
    • Ability to travel (i.e., access to reliable transportation) to various campuses, schools, and other sites in CVTC's 11-county district as needed to fulfill the responsibilities of this position.
    Qualifications
    • Minimum of two years of related occupational experience which would include exposure to automation engineering. Examples of related occupational experience may include maintenance, facilities, technician, automation, or educational support work.
    • Experience with electrical troubleshooting using voltmeter and ammeter testing preferred.
    • Experience with PLCs and motor controls, contactors, overloads, and variable frequency drives (VFDs) preferred.
    • Technical diploma or other formal training (e.g., certifications) in an automation or maintenance related area preferred.
