Position Summary:

The Industrial Engineering Intern is to perform studies of manufacturing operations and provide advice and counsel on manufacturing issues. The Intern Industrial Engineer provides support to Industrial Engineers and factory supervision to improve operational efficiency, work flow and processes.

Primary Responsibilities:

Project Support: 20%

  • Assist lean manufacturing project teams. Support problem solving, transformation, lean manufacturing, process/continuous improvement, innovation and six sigma projects.

Training/Industry Support: 20%

  • Prepare lean training materials and support courses on lean techniques. Provide direct support to a designated manufacturing area under the direction of an Industrial Engineer. Shadow tools and parts as needed by Industry and MRO. Build carts and racks for Industry and MRO as needed.

Visual Management: 10%

  • Update visual management schemes, metrics, and support analysis and tools to assist in operating manufacturing.

55 & FOD Support: 10%

  • Document 5S scores, FOD levels and assist in compliance with NAS 412.

Kaizen: 10%

  • Conduct Kaizen improvement events; quickly reducing cost, cycle time and inventory.

Process/Continuous Improvement: 20%

  • Learn the process/continuous improvement process at Airbus Helicopters and assist/participate in project teams.

Above the floor Support: 10%

  • Consult with and support "above-the-floor" process owners to leverage lean techniques and improvements in their areas.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualified Experience / Skills / Training:

Education:

  • High School diploma and currently seeking Bachelor's Degree and/or Master's in Industrial Engineering, or related field.

Experience:

  • Some office work environment preferred. Must be well organized and have good time management skills. Ability to use computers, and associated software. Experience with aviation manufacturing, flight line operations, maintenance, repair and overhaul services, or aircraft completions is desirable.

Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities:

  • None

Communication Skills (Spoken, Written, Influencing, Proficiency in Other Languages):

  • Requires ability to communicate effectively verbally and in written form.

Technical Systems Proficiency:

  • Requires use of computer and proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. AutoCAD and VBA proficiency are preferred.

  • 0% Domestic and International

Citizenship:

  • Able to work in the US without a current or future need for visa sponsorship

  • Excellent communication skills are required as daily interactions occur with internal customers, external customers, support departments, and peers.

Physical Requirements:

  • Onsite: 100% of time that this position must be worked onsite at the company's location.
  • Vision: able to see and read computer screen and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents, reports and engineering drawings
  • Hearing: able to hear to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds on production floor including safety warnings or alarms.
  • Speaking: able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications.
  • Equipment Operation (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors): able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment and some tools including production tools such as hydraulic lifts
  • Carrying: able to carry documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.
  • Lifting: able to lift documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs
  • Pushing / Pulling: able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools
  • Sitting: able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on computer.
  • Squatting / Kneeling: able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving.
  • Standing: able to stand for discussions in offices or on production floor
  • Walking (include routine walking such as to a shared printer to retrieve documents): able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces.
