How You'll Make a Difference

Assists the pharmacist(s) by performing a variety of distribution, technical and clerical duties. Acts as a resource to other pharmacy technicians and service clerks.

Acts as a resource for pharmacy technicians and service clerks on all job duties in accordance with performance standards.

Assists department leadership in staff training, orientation and technical guidance as needed.

Services pharmacy customers including: obtaining and recording initial demographic and other required information, data entry of required information into the pharmacy system for record keeping, insurance verification and label generation purposes, and cashiering.

Under the supervision of the pharmacist, prepares appropriate medication. This includes selecting product, counting or reconstituting and packaging of product.

Supports Medication Therapy Management (MTM) services, including submission of claims to payers of MTM services, completing MTM documentation forms, interviewing patients and documenting their medication and health histories and other information in preparation for an in-person comprehensive medication reviews (CMRs).

Provides support tasks specific to MTM services, including identifying patients eligible for services, flagging prescriptions for potential intervention by the pharmacist, printing information for pharmacist interventions, and placing calls to patients for pharmacist consultation. Explains to patients MTM services and schedules patients for CMRs.

Performs limited insurance and third party billing functions including: data entry of customer demographics and third-party information, obtaining prior authorizations from appropriate third-party carriers, maintaining files of prior authorization, investigating and correcting errors in submission to third parties and handling private insurance, workers compensation, and third-party insurance coverage and prescription-related issues.

Performs any of the following clerical duties to ensure efficient operations depending upon the needs of the pharmacy: inventory control including ordering and stocking, preparing medications for delivery or mailing, prescription, bank and post office deliveries, prescription billing for physicians, general housekeeping and display set up.

Qualifications
License & Certifications
Pharmacy Technician certification (CPhT) issued by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.
Education
High School Graduate.
Experience
Typically requires 2 years of experience in as a Pharmacy Technician that includes experiences in a retail pharmacy.

Knowledge of pharmacy standards, policies, and procedures, and of third-party insurance and Medicare.Demonstrates cognitive skills and comprehensive understanding of Medicaid standards of practice and of State of Wisconsin Medication Therapy Management (MTM) services and other commercial MTM programs.Demonstrated knowledge of medication usage to appropriately identify the correctness of billing as well as appropriateness of medications for processing.Exceptional customer service, communication, organization, problem resolution and process development skills.Demonstrated ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality, and take initiative.Demonstrated ability to independently read and interpret a prescription order.Must have high attention to detail and strong mathematical skills.Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft office applications and electronic mail. Experience with electronic medical records and/or pharmacy systems.
