Job Description
The Category Manager is responsible for developing, sourcing, pricing and merchandising a group of products for catalog, internet and sales promotions that meet the merchandising objectives of the company. Provides merchandise assortments that continually increase company revenues and profitability that achieve all assigned category goals and objectives.

  • Experience in using and knowledge of commercial, installed sound products including low voltage, distributed sound systems, ceiling speakers, mixer/amplifiers, playback sources, conferencing and related products are required. In-depth knowledge of recording hardware, software, and products related to the recording process is also required.
  • Develops, implements and executes annual and long-range merchandising plans in support of company sales objectives for growth and profitability for assigned product lines.  Plans include goals, financial targets and identification of opportunities for market segment, position, and/or competitive advantage.
  • Responsible for negotiation of all elements of vendor programs, including but not limited to, discounts from invoice, co-op, volume rebates, marketing funds, payment terms, exclusive models, allocations, etc. Consults with Management, Purchasing and Sales as needed.
  • Vendor performance and relationships are, in concert with the assigned Supply Chain personnel, assuring a high level of product quality, adequate delivery, and margin through quantitative and qualitative measures. 
  • Works closely with vendors and Management to develop product assortments within designated category that are indicative of current market and customer demand patterns.
  • Selects products that deliver value and margin potential while meeting or exceeding customer expectations.
  • Manage product line scope and size through quantitative analysis as well as market conditions.
  • Differentiates product assortment from competitors through the creation of unique bundles, value ads, exclusive models, b-stock and closeouts.
  • Regularly analyzes category performance reports and reacts accordingly to positive or negative sales trends through assortment or promotional adjustments. 
  • Develops action plans to improve sales and sell-thru.
  • Manages product life cycles, developing alternatives to increase sales and extend sales performance; works with suppliers and Supply Chain to develop exit strategies for non-performing products
  • Ensures Full Compass is first to market with all major new products and product launches. Coordinates closely with vendor, assistant category specialist, marketing, creative and purchasing to ensure successful and timely execution.
  • Responsible for creation of merchandising offers to support promotional vehicles. This includes offers to support the Full Compass catalogs, website, email and other marketing tactics requiring product offers.
  • Analyzes the performance of product promotions to increase the effectiveness of those offers.
  • Ensures all merchandising deliverables are met and provided to marketing according to the established deadline schedules and pre-determined service level agreements.
  • Monitors, retains awareness and reacts to competitive pricing and promotional activities including all relevant competitors.
  • Increases market awareness through supplier and industry contacts, merchandise trade shows, and trade periodicals.
  • Maintains an effective professional rapport and partnership with internal cross functional teams.
  • Develops and maintains clear communications with all company personnel. 
  • Maintains high ethical standards, good company image, supplier relations and professional correspondence through many daily business contacts.  Answers or responds to all outside inquires and opportunities in a professional and timely manner.

Bachelor's Degree preferred. Requires a minimum of five years of experience in applicable product categories of Recording equipment and software, Commercial Installed Sound products and Conference Systems with required depth and breadth of product knowledge.  Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
