Overall goal: Raise funds to support the Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee’s mission to foster strong, resilient and inclusive communities by providing a continuum of high-quality housing options that support self-sufficiency, good quality of life, and the opportunity to thrive
Responsibilities:
Work with the Executive Director and the Director of Community Programs & Services to set annual fundraising goals and develop a budget to support fundraising activities
Develop and implement plans for securing gifts, business sponsorships and grants to fulfill fundraising goals
Research funding opportunities from governmental organizations, foundations and corporations, and prepare grant applications/proposals
Assume a proactive leadership role in the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of individuals and local business sponsorships.
Cultivate and directly solicit individual donors, working with the Executive Director and other key volunteers as appropriate.
Maintain a list of potential donors with appropriate contact information, record date and type of solicitation, and record actual contributions received (date and amount)
Maintain a list of grant applications that includes the organization, due date, amount of grant, purpose of grant, date grant application submitted, and status of application
Work with the Housing Authority’s Communications Coordinator to plan and coordinate events, mailings and social media activities to achieve fundraising goals.
Work with the Housing Authority’s Communications Coordinator to develop brochures and sponsorship proposals required to support development efforts.
Ensure that all donors are immediately and appropriately thanked and receive regular reports and communications from the Housing Authority.
Provide quarterly reports on fundraising progress

Qualifications and Experience The ideal candidate will have:
At least 3-5 years of documented success in obtaining government grants, and major gifts, grants, and contributions from philanthropic foundations, businesses and individual donors
Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing or in a related field or the equivalent in work experience
Experience in organizing and implementing the following activities: grant applications, major and business sponsorships, and direct mail and special events
Computer literacy and a knowledge of donor database systems
Ability to use social media and the website for fundraising and donor cultivation
Outstanding interpersonal, communication, writing and public speaking skills
An entrepreneurial, flexible and resourceful spirit
A sense of humor
Must be willing and able to work some weekends, evenings and early mornings
Licensing Requirements
Wisconsin Driver’s license

Job typically requires: reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time working at a computer. Walking and standing are required only occasionally.
