GENERAL SUMMARY

This position is responsible for executing maintenance and operations for an anaerobic digestion to renewable natural gas (RNG) located in Grankd Marsh, WI. The site consists of two digesters (expanding three in 2019) and a plant that strips carbon dioxide out of the gas stream, creating a pure natural gas product. The gas is compressed and trucked via CNG trailers to an interconnect outside of Manitowoc, WI where it is injected into an interstate pipeline and used for vehicle fuel. The facility technician will be responsible for executing maintenance on digesters, compressors, pipelines, conduct electrical troubleshooting, create operational reports, and safely operating a complex renewable natural gas processing plant while maximizing profitability. Attention to detail, especially with the correct metering of renewable gas, will be critical to success. While work hours are primarily during normal daylight hours, after hours call-outs and flexibility of work hours will be necessary. Technician will also travel to other Wisconsin RNG facilities as needed.

MISSION

Safely, ethically, and profitably operate the equipment necessary for the processing and transportation of gas produced from two manure digesters into pipeline quality gas. The multi-million dollar process involves compression of gas, membrane separation of carbon dioxide from methane, trucking of gas, and pipeline injection. This is a rapidly growing business line with potential for future promotion following success in this role.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED
  • A valid state driver's license are required.
  • A two year technical degree (Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics or similar) or a two year science degree (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geology or similar) are desired or an equivalent of work experience).
  • 5+ years of industrial experience showing continous improvement.
Other Qualifications

A successful candidate will have 5+ years’ industrial experience, showing continuous skill advancement. Demonstrated competencies will include:

  • Strong industrial skill set – including electrical troubleshooting, PLC knowledge, gas compressor maintenance and operations, flow meter operations, valves, gas chromatographs, etc.
  • Strong administrative skills – basic computer skills, assisting in purchasing correct equipment, and operator logs.
  • Strong logistical skills – truck dispatching, bill of laden creation, inventory management, maintenance planning
  • Safety Background/Understanding – Understanding of OSHA requirements, developing a good safety culture, and implementing safety improvements
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – maintaining a good relationship with the dairy host, the community, and employees will be essential to success.
  • Candidate will be required to lift up to 50lbs, walk across un-even terrain, and perform a variety of tasks that require manual dexterity and flexibility.
  • Candidate is required to have a valid driver’s license.
Additional Information

The employee will be required to operate and maintain a DOT regulated pipeline. Employee will be subject to random drug screening during employment per DOT PHMSA requirements.

It is crucial to the outcome of job tasks that the employee is able to use hands and fingers to handle and manipulate object as well as to talk and hear.

The employee in this classification will be required to frequently lift objects of up to 25 pounds in weight. Occasionally, the employee will have to lift or move objects of up to 50 pounds in weight.

Working Conditions

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions, including wet and/or humid conditions, and extreme cold and/or heat. The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and/or machinery. The noise level in the work environment is moderate. Employee will routinely operate a motor vehicle on unimproved terrain.

Employee will be required to respond to plant upset conditions (call-outs) outside of normal business hours, work unscheduled overtime and may occasionally be required to travel to other work locations using personal transportation (travel expense reimbursed within policy limits).
