The Behavioral Health Division (BHD) in Milwaukee County provides care and treatment to adults, children, and adolescents with mental illness, substance use disorders, and intellectual disabilities through both County operated programs and contracts with community agencies. Services include intensive short-term treatment through our crisis services and inpatient services, as well as a full array of supportive community services for persons with serious mental illness and substance use disorders. The Milwaukee County Behavioral Health Division through early assessment and intervention promotes hope for individuals and their families through innovative recovery programs in behavioral health wellness, recovery, research and education. Position Summary: Under the general direction of the Service Medical Director or Psychiatrist designee the Physician-hourly provides psychiatric and somatic medical care to adults, adolescents, and children in an emergency room and/or inpatient setting. To operate safely, BHD must always have 4-5 licensed Physicians in-house. Physician-hourly primarily fulfill night and weekend shifts to help meet the 24/7 medical staffing requirements. Position Duties: Admission and Discharge of Patients. Provides observation, assessment, diagnosis, care, treatment and planning for assigned patients presenting for admission at BHD under the general direction of a fully trained psychiatrist; provides medication management; may conduct psychotherapy. Psychiatric Management and Treatment. Provides psychiatric and/or medical care; develops appropriate treatment plans; consults with outside physicians, ancillary professionals, agencies and/or other interested individuals. Assessments, Referrals and Consultations. Responds to inpatient ward request in a timely manner; assesses patients and develops treatment plan; makes referrals for routine, urgent, or emergency treatment services in accordance with the patient's need. Consults with lead attending psychiatrist on duty, as needed. Documentation. Maintains appropriate and timely medical record documentation (written and electronic) in conformance with regulations, hospital policy, CMS, state and billing requirements. Risk and Legal Assessments. Provides seclusion/restraint assessments and suicide/homicide risk assessments; maintains familiarity with WI mental health laws; clears or places legal holds on patients; may be asked to testify at patient commitment/detention hearings. Medical Staff Governance and Professional Practice Review. Maintains a working knowledge of all critical medical staff and hospital policies; participates in professional review activities when assigned. Professional Development. May conduct or participate in research activities; updates professional knowledge on a continuing basis through continued residency specialty training and current literature. Miscellaneous. Performs other duties related to patient care and professional activities, as assigned |

Special Instructions: The ORIGINAL EXAMINATION is open to current residents of the United States. Appointee must establish residency within the confines of the State of Wisconsin or Illinois within six months of appointment and maintain such residency during incumbency. In accordance with Section 11, Rule 3 of the Civil Service Rules a non-competitive examination will be held for this position. The non-competitive examination will consist of criteria deemed appropriate by the Director of Human Resources to rank applicants on the eligible list for this position. |
