Job Duties
As a cake decorator, you will be trained to perform the following techniques:
Setting up and icing cakes
Swirling buttercream on cupcakes
Reading and interpreting orders
Writing inscriptions on cakes using buttercream
Making simple flowers (you will be taught more elaborate techniques as you successfully master simpler ones)
Airbrushing
Decorating "line" cakes (non-custom cakes)
Decorating custom cakes
The cake decorator will master all of the above techniques and procedures in order to produce professional quality cake, cupcake, and cookie designs. Training will be provided on all tasks but some decorator experience is expected.
Skills and Qualifications
Ability to understand and act on written and verbal instruction. The right candidate will demonstrate attention to detail, artistic ability, creativity, dependability, and ability to work both independently as well as in a group and at a steady pace. Must be able to stand and use hands/arms for long periods of time, as well as bend, lift, push, and pull 30+ pounds. Fluency in reading and writing English important; Spanish fluency helpful. Must be at least 18 years of age.
Work Schedule
Dependable attendance and punctuality are imperative. Regular schedule is typically 5 shifts per week and 34 to 42 hours. Start time can be as early as 4am. Occasional Saturdays as needed. A start time will be given for each day; finishing time dependent on workload for the day.
