Position Description
 

POSITION TITLE:    Certified Medical Assistant
             
REPORTS TO:           RN Primary Care Clinic Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Certified Medical Assistant will assist with various patient duties including; assessing patient needs, answering questions, providing patient care; rooming patients, taking vitals and histories, giving injections, assisting with phone triage under the direct supervision of a RN or provider, assisting with procedures, administering medications, patient education and other duties as assigned
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES/QUALIFICATIONS:
 
  1. Preparing patients for examination
  2. Setting up and cleaning patient rooms
  3. Assisting the physician during exams and procedures
  4. Notifying patients of laboratory results as directed by the provider
  5. Collecting and preparing laboratory specimens
  6. Reinforcing patient/family education or providing pre-written instructions and document information in the medical record
  7. Administering care as outlined in provider orders and departmental/organizational policies/procedures and protocols per scope of practice
  8. Completing additional healthcare tasks per scope of practice and department procedures that may include but not limited to:
    1. drawing blood
    2. performing electrocardiograms
    3. removing sutures
    4. simple dressings changes
    5. preparing and administering medications under the direction of the Medical Provider following guidelines, protocols and policies of Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County Primary Care Clinic
  9. Maintaining department supplies and equipment to facilitate the flow of patient care
  10. Cleaning instruments and equipment per manufacturer and departmental policy
  11. Follows MHLC’s attendance policy.
  12. Must be flexible and have well developed interpersonal skills.
  13. Must display a high degree of emotional maturity while keeping difficult situations in proper perspective.
  14. Must be mentally adaptable and flexible in dealing with a variety of people.
  15. Works closely with staff from all departments to provide direct patient care including the ER Provider.
  16. Extensive contact with patients and their families, visitors and public.
  17. Performs all other duties as requested.
 
Education Requirements:
 
  1. High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  2. Current Licensure as a Certified Medical Assistant in the State of Wisconsin.
  3. BLS Certified.

  15. Continuously will articulate with extreme accuracy and precision to give directions and speak on phone.
  16. Frequently will see distant objects sufficiently to pass the Wisconsin driver’s license vision test.
  17. Frequently will see objects closely to refer to computer and written accuracy.
  18. Frequently will hear normal sounds and voices with some background noise to receive verbal instructions and communicate with patients co-workers.
  19. Frequently will make assessments of equipment.
  20. Continuously will concentrate on detail with moderate interruption.
  21. Frequently will attend to task/function less than 20 minutes at a time.
  22. Frequently will attend to task/function for 20-45 minutes at a time.
  23. Occasionally will remember verbal and written task/assignment for a few hours during shift.

Environmental Conditions:
 
  1. Continuously will work indoors with temperature at a normal range of 70 degrees.

  1. Telephone: Will operate on a daily basis.
  2. Computer/Printer/Fax/Scanner: Will operate on a daily basis.
  3. Electronic Health Records system: Will operate on a daily basis
  4. Use of nursing equipment such as:
    1. Electrocardiogram
    2. Datascopes
    3. Manual blood pressure
