Directs all activities of HIM at all CSM campuses. Directs planning, organizing, staffing, training, and budgeting for the HIM Department. Establishes and communicates patient account standards for all Health Information functions including those that are decentralized.
* Responsible for establishing CSM HIM standards in compliance with external payers and regulatory standards. * Plans and directs the operation of the CSM HIM Departments. * Establishes standards for employee selection, performance appraisal and performance improvement, terminations and recommendation for promotion and transfer. * Directs and administers HIM budgets and capital requests. Monitors monthly budget reports to ensure that expenses meet budgetary guidelines and that all exceptions are explained and approved. * Provides guidance and expertise to decentralized registration sites within CSM. * Maintains knowledge or innovations in HIM technology and trends and champions changes in practice to improve accounts receivable management and/or customer satisfaction * Designs performance indicators for the department, functions and employees. * Develops recommends, implements and monitors department goals. * Plans and directs activities and policies and procedures which ensure compliance with JCAHO and other government and regulatory agency requirements. * Directs the development and delivery of orientation, training and ongoing employee development in all HIM functions. * Collaborates with the Vice President/CIO to determine appropriate involvement in committees within the organization. * Maintains open channels of communication within the department and with all internal and external customers. * Acts as a role model for effective interpersonal relationships, maintaining professional conduct at all times. * Establishes and maintains standards for confidential patient and department information. * Establishes communication with CSM clinics and other physician offices that refer patients to CSM hospitals. * Collaborates with physicians and their office staff to enhance the flow of accurate patient demographic and medical information.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or Healthcare Management preferred
* 3-5 Years previous experience in a healthcare leadership role, preferable in HIM * Working knowledge of quality improvement methodologies, database management, information systems and quantitative analysis * Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to deliver effective presentations * Effective problem solving skills and analytical ability to resolve complex multifaceted systems problems * Commitment to staff development and a management style that embraces teamwork, development of self-directed teams, employee participation and open, honest communication
