Position Description

Student Services Coordinator or Senior Student Services Coordinator


The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Norris Health Center Office of Health Promotion and Wellness (HPW) has a full-time opening for a Health Promotion and Wellness Coordinator.

HPW is seeking a qualified individual to plan, coordinate, and implement health promotion and outreach programs, to produce printed and web-based health promotion materials, and to provide leadership for and coordinate all aspects of the peer health advocate program.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college/university;
  • 3 years experience in a physical health, mental health or related setting, occurring in such places as, but not limited to, a clinic, the community, a school or university, public health agency, or occupational setting;
  • one year of health education/health promotion and wellness program development and implementation.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    1. Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited college/university in one of the following acceptable fields:
    • Health Education, Health Promotion and Wellness, Community Health Education, Health Communication, Public Health, and other variants of these degrees;
    • Degrees relating to the practice of mental health counseling, e.g. Psychology, Social Work, Community Mental Health, School Guidance, and other variants of these degrees;
    • Degrees in the Social Sciences, e.g. Sociology;
    • Degrees related to exercise, fitness, and nutrition, e.g. Kinesiology, Human Performance, Exercise Physiology, Physical Education, Nutrition and Dietetics;
    • Degrees related to the provision of health care, e.g. nursing and physician assistant;
    • Other degrees related to the study of human behavior, interaction, growth and development, including, but not limited to communication, biology, community health, etc. as noted above; or another closely related field of study.
    2. Three years in health education, promotion and wellness program development and implementation.
    3. Demonstrated expertise in a variety of health behavior areas.
    4. College health experience or other collegiate setting that is directly related to duties.
    5. CHES certification.
    6. Expertise in running a peer advocate or a similar program.
    7. Serving diverse and underserved populations.
    8. Federal and private grant-writing experience.
    9. Web-based health education programming experience.

    Preferred Abilities and Skills:

    Excellent communication skills, ability to work collaboratively in a team setting, demonstrated experience in leadership roles, and demonstrated abilities to work and think independently, and to use good judgment and ingenuity in performance of duties.

    NOTE: Pertinent educational experiences related to this position, e.g. peer health educator, internship related to health education, may count toward one year of experience.

    Anticipated start date is February 1, 2010 (negotiable). Salary is negotiable and commensurate with qualifications. Excellent fringe benefits, including vacation and sick leave benefits.

    The Norris Health Center operates 8:00 AM-4:45 PM, Monday through Friday, although the flexibility to work some evening and weekend hours is required.
