Position Description

The Clinical Director of Oral Health is responsible for the management of the dental staff, as well as clinic-wide coordination of the delivery of professional dental care, facilitation of the dental care review process, and development of the dental program. Oversee and facilitate the insurance that the dental program's clinical measures are being met. Provide direct dental services to the clinic's patients in accordance with the general policies and standards of performance established by the clinic. Elicits detailed patient histories and conducts complete dental assessment. Performs dental care and treatment program including: diagnosis, preventive, operative, prosthetic, endodontic, pedodontic, surgical and oral pathologic procedures.


POSITION-SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

In addition to the Dentist job description, the Clinical Director of Oral Health is accountable for and has the following duties and responsibilities:
• Directly responsible for the recruitment, screening and recommending of dental personnel for employment.
• Complete annual performance appraisals of the clinic dentist, and other dental providers and dental support staff.
• Responsible for the provision of on-call coverage and coordinates the schedules of dental staff, as to special activities, vacations, and other leaves.
• Assist the Chief Operating Officer and President/CEO with the identification of the community's dental needs and dental care gaps.
• Assist the Chief Operating Officer and President/CEO with planning changes or additions to the dental care delivery program and dental care services.
• Responsible for the participation of dental personnel in health education efforts.
• Responsible for dental protocols and Interdisciplinary Continuous Quality Improvement standards.
• Responsible for dental chart audits and other dental care review activities.
• Responsible for the interpretation of the Interdisciplinary Continuous Quality Improvement Team's findings of care audits and formulating any corrective plans where deficiencies may be identified. Accountability for corrective plan results cannot be delegated.
• Attend the Interdisciplinary Continuous Quality Improvement Team Committee meetings to review clinical and patient care issues.
• Responsible for the investigation of all patient complaints/grievances and report findings to the President/CEO and Interdisciplinary Continuous Quality Improvement Committee.
• Responsible for coordinating ongoing plans of dental in-service training and insures that the dental personnel are participating in continuing education activities.
• Develop plans for dentist's involvement in community service activities designed to enhance public awareness of health issues or increase awareness of the dental services available through the clinic.
• Execute and interpret dental policies and protocols between clinic sites.
• Resolve problems in dental care delivery or clinic operations.
• Develop dental consultative and referral linkage arrangements with local dental providers, which reflect patient care needs and enhance capacity of dental providers.
• Responsible for ensuring that personnel decisions are consistent with policies and procedures of Milwaukee Health Services, Inc.
• Develop and implement collaborative efforts within the corporation, for interdisciplinary programming.
• Responsible for the monitoring of sterilization techniques and compliance with policies and protocol of the corporation.
• Responsible for accurate and timely Dental Department Billing Procedures. Coordinates upgrades and implementation of new insurance programs.
• Attend meetings and any assigned committees, as assigned.
• Perform other job related duties, as may be assigned.
