CONTROLLER
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee invites nominations and applications for the position of Controller in the Department of Business and Financial Services.
UW-Milwaukee is a doctoral research-extensive university and is the primary urban campus among the 26 campuses of the University of Wisconsin System. With an annual operating budget of about $478 million, the University offers 86 undergraduate majors, 49 master’s degrees, and 23 doctoral programs, serving over 27,000 students.
Responsibilities: This position is responsible for the financial management and accounting control of the operating and auxiliary budgets, and implementing accounting policies and procedures for the campus.
This position is the day-to-day manager of the University’s funds and accounts. UWM has many types of funds, each with its own rules, legal regulations, and procedures, which can be affected by actions from the UW System, Board of Regents, State Department of Administration, and federal agencies.
This position requires a highly organized individual who can manage a large staff performing accounting and business functions for a research institution, work with the UW System, state and federal contacts, and serve as the campus leader for resolving and managing the accounting of funds.
Minimum Qualifications: This position requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of six years of progressively responsible experience in the accounting field, with at least two years experience as a Controller.
Preferred Qualifications: A CPA,
excellent analytical and communication skills (both written and oral);
ability to lead and motivate staff and manage personnel matters;
strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills;
demonstrated skills in effective management and team building;
proficiency with enterprise systems (UWM uses Peoplesoft,) including the General Ledger/Purchasing/Accounts Payable/Asset Management/Student Information System module(PAWS).
Management of payroll systems and fund accounting experience is preferred.
The ability to provide superb customer service and serve as model representative for department and division is a plus.
