Position Description
The position requires 40 hours of work per week over rotating shifts, including evenings and weekends.
Position Overview/Purpose
Safe and efficient pilot plant operation including start-up, shut-down, sampling, recording and reporting data, maintenance, and plant modification in support of Virent scientific research, development and production.
Follow and improve safe, efficient, and sustainable processes allowing successful scientific research, development and production.
Understand corporate objectives and perform daily tasks in support of these objectives.
Accountability (individual and departmental success shall be measured by the following)
Completing 5 safety related items.
The number of OSHA recordable injuries of the lab operations team
The weight check and DOC success rate
Timely implementation of projects (upgrades, rebuilds, installations, improvements)
Completing 5 safety related items.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Develop a detailed working knowledge of all Pilot Plants, lab operations equipment, and all utilities used in support of research, development and production.
Develop a detailed working knowledge of safe chemical handling and safe pilot plant operation.
Perform day to day operation including start-up and shut-down of Pilot Plants
Perform required and preventative maintenance on Pilot Plants
Perform laboratory tests to produce reliable and precise data to support scientific research
Collect and prepare data for review and analysis
Assist with the improvement and modification of Pilot Plants as needed
Prepare samples for analysis
Conduct individual work activities in a safe and environmentally considerate manner.
Work closely with Engineers to aid in the effective completion of experimental plans.
Work closely with Analysis lab personnel to aid in the completion of experimental plans.
Successful participation and completion of assigned training
Participation in hazard analysis.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities necessary to perform essential functions
Demonstrated mechanical ability.
Demonstrated mathematical aptitude.
Strong analytical/problem solving skills.
Knowledge/experience with Swagelok™ compression fittings or equivalent.
Demonstrated mastery of basic chemistry laboratory procedures.
Demonstrated ability to learn, follow and help refine procedures w/minimal oversight.
Expertise in Windows OS computer application including Microsoft Office.
Ability to work creatively and effectively in a team environment and adopt hands-on focus.
Ability to accept responsibility and follow-through on tasks to completion.
Effective oral and written communication skills
Self-starter with willingness and expand expertise and skills base.
Timely and clear communication skills.
Education and Experience Requirements
· EDUCATION:
Associate degree, in a production, manufacturing engineering, general engineering field, physical science field , or equivalent experience.
· EXPERIENCE:
None, preference given to experience in a laboratory, pilot plant, or production environment in a chemical
